There's this weird thing in the American Exceptionalist psyche where we get told over & over & over again that our history— The Best History— comes down to Singular Moments™ led by Great Men™— the Revolution, Emancipation, Miners' Strikes Civil Rights— & those moments' resolutions Solved It Forever™
You know in Europe they riot about this kind of thing.
A new investigation has revealed that grocery delivery service Instacart is using a covert, AI-powered dynamic pricing scheme to charge customers different prices for the same items — potentially costing households over $1,000 more a year.

As was clear during Trump 1, roughly 37% of Americans are committed to white supremacy &/or Christian nationalism, no matter the cost. Very much reminds me of the Reconstruction South, which doubled down on the plantation regime that had destroyed the country in the aftermath of emancipation.

Jimmy Fallon: "And do you use ChatGPT when raising your baby?"

Sam Altman: "I cannot imagine figuring out how to raise a newborn without ChatGPT."

If there was ever any moment to abandon the racial state, it would have been in the aftermath of emancipation. And sure, some ex-Confederates said they were sorry when they thought there was a chance they could be tried for treason, but immediately turned to creating a Klantation landscape.

The "Great America" maga wants to go back to is pre women's votes, and pre emancipation.
Racism makes them dream of the days when life expectancy was low, and disease killed off 20% of the children.

colonialist apologia indistinguishable from any imperialist's treatment of the subaltern throughout history

It's impressive how Branko tries to scare monger about east europeans pursuing "emancipation" and "self-determination"

Garrison co-founded The Liberator in 1831 and served as its editor until the 13th Amendment abolished slavery in 1865. The newspaper demanded immediate, uncompensated emancipation at a time when many abolitionists favored gradual emancipation or the colonization of Black Americans in Africa. /2

Yah, he literally overruled several battlefield attempts an emancipation by certain Union generals. The timing was key.

Thats a perfect historical example. The public was against Emancipation early and Lincoln was savy enough to both recognize the politics and bend the curve and allow battle victories to create the space.

Too many folks tall about politics as if politicians aren't *employed to do it*.

The levels of misogyny and racism in SG-1 "Emancipation" and TNG "Code of Honor" actually stings. It's unbearable that either made it to production. I've known many fans who would generally be considered conservative in their politics who even "Yeesh" at these eps. That's an accomplishment.

Some days I get to see the emancipation proclamation for realsies (kind of)

This is the best part: all persons held as slaves within any State or designated part of a State, the people whereof shall then be in rebellion against the United States, shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free

Labour was created in 1900 'to promote the political, social and economic emancipation of the people,' specifically as the antidote to Tory and Liberal rule.

Then The Establishment told voters it was 'unelectable,' and here we are...

On a similar theme, my favorite Christmas Carol is "Oh Holy Night" a French carol in which the American composer who translated it into English in 1855 snuck in overt emancipation language to make it an anti-slavery hymn:

And when you have to parse weird legal texts, to say—well, we only meant some people can be free—you don’t understand the demand of emancipation. None of us are free until we are all free.
