Alex Sarr told reporters that he expects to play in tomorrow afternoon's preseason opener in Washington. Sarr had been sidelined with a left calf injury that he sustained during EuroBasket, but he has been ramping up over the last week.

There weren’t many bright spots for the 2025 Connecticut Sun, but there were a few notable ones. Namely Leïla Lacan, Saniya Rivers and Aneesah Morrow. CT’s in a tough spot for the coming frenzy thanks in large part to the #WNBA meddling in its sale, but the youth movement is off to a solid start.

The Sun's pair of 2025 first-round picks, Saniya Rivers and Aneesah Morrow, also look like to have bright WNBA futures ahead. The seventh overall pick in April, Morrow finished her rookie season averaging 7.7 points and 6.9 rebounds per game despite making just 37.5% from the field. Those numbers ticked up to 8.2 points and 8.7 rebounds per game over her final 21 games of the season from late July on, with that stretch coinciding with her insertion into the starting five. Morrow's numbers aren't quite former LSU teammate Angel Reese's rookie numbers, but the "Bayou Barbie" certainly seems a model for the leap Morrow could hope to take from year one to year two.

The eighth overall pick, Rivers averaged 8.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game as a rookie and hit 40.7% from the field including 34.1% from deep. She finished the season on a bit of a heater, putting up 11.3 points per game over her final 12 outings as a rookie while making 42% from deep in that span and scoring in double figures in eight of those 12 games.
Rayah Marshall (the 13th overall pick in April) and Aaliyah Edwards (the sixth pick in 2024, acquired via trade with the Mystics) are also on rookie contracts while Olivia Nelson-Ododa will be a restricted free agent. On top of all of its returning young talent, Connecticut has a couple of late first-round picks in the 2026 draft via Phoenix and Minnesota, but its own first-round pick belongs to Chicago.

I asked Neemias Queta what he will take from EuroBasket that he can apply to an NBA setting. Queta focused on being in a leadership role and helping the Celtics' newcomers. He also wants to be versatile to help the team win.

One of the reasons Queta's EuroBasket was of such interest is that the C position is such a question mark. If he's able to play at an average nba-starter level, then I think top 6 is very possible.

They actually have a formula (shoot lots of 3s) to offset some talent reduction.
