an annoying thing about Jenrick's "WHY NOTHING DONE ABOUT FAREDODGING CRIMS" is... TfL regularly does try to handle fare-dodging, it announced another big push just last month, that announcement was in the press. What does he want them to DO that they don't already except make him Tory leader?

This is not a thread in protection of really stupid "faredodging is good, actually" takes. I am pointing out that a skilled populist could have done this with a sheen of authenticity, yet Jenrick is not good at populism.

Is it a stunning statistic? TfL's annual revenue is £9.4bn. Faredodging is an issue, which is tackled, but one that isn't that big in proportion.

It's also basically the only stat in a piece otherwise populated with anecdata/petty complaints to argue to scrap London's strategic government, again.

Any redponsible state would make public transport free.

Cheaper to maintain, better for the environment, better use of roadspace. Faredodging is an irrelevance. Criminalising poverty is a greater crime.
