The bad thing is that with schools closed and roads impassible, we will be losing a WEEK or more of robot build days. Out of 8 weeks, losing a week or more is NOT good. #FIRSTRoboticsCompetition

I get dorked about simulating robots in #FirstRoboticsCompetition mostly because it lets students tinker in a risk free environment. But I've never had any success until we switched to Python and the RobotPy tooling. Now I can make progress! And it's easy! 1/?

It's working. The kids in the lab today were tinkering in the sim for grins. One really liked driving the robot around in it. The other got bored with debugging of the physical robot and just made new feature: press A and the bot goes to the algae processor. And it works. #FIRSTRoboticsCompetition

I beat the living hell out of some robot code today. Just working in sims, trying out ideas, figuring out which direction to lead students down. And adding to the physics simulation.

I've got some really good pathing going on here. And it's dead simple to implement.

We needed a larger gusset than all the ones we have to connect two pieces of 1 x 2 tubing. So we designed one, and are having an alumnus water jet it for us for cost of materials only. #FIRSTRoboticsCompetition #REEFscape

Four foot long sections of 1" x 2" x1/8" pre-drilled aluminum tubing. It has been powder coated yellow and is wrapped in bubble wrap. Next to it is a small closed box full of brackets and gussets which have been powder coated blue. The same powder coated aluminum tubing as in the other photo, now being assembled into a swerve chassis using SDS MK4 modules. A person in a flannel shirt is seen behind the chassis.
