Every year in Whitehorse they haul the floatplanes (the ones without wheels) out of the lakes etc and park them at the airport for winter.

so from experience working on floatplanes when I was in Alaska, and checking out PBYs and such on the ground, I kinda like the idea of a flying boat solution, or like ya say, uncrewed surface dudes.
maybe a mix of the two would be best because the Pacific gets.... pretty hardcore when it's angry.

There can be floatplanes, but hovercraft are specifically forbidden (seriously!)

You work with airplanes, right? I love airplanes! Floatplanes are my favorite. Do you have a favorite kind of plane?
Also, as a roo, do you know about tree kangaroos?
Bonus question: what do you keep in your pouch?

I love back country aviation and there are few people who capture it better than floatplanes… https://www.instagram.com/p/BV0hWUMFcrb/

I don't know what it is about the Kingfisher that makes it so special but of all the scout floatplanes of WWII I want to fly that one the most

Norm!
Kawanishi produced two high performance floatplanes towards the end of WW2. One was a fighter, the N1K “Rex”, the other the E15K “Norm”.

There are no boats, no floatplanes, and yet the ripples on the water are moving in myriad ways. It's quite spell-binding.

It's easy to be critical; I know for a fact that backcountry fire crews have worked their guts out on this fire, as did aircrew in multiple helicopters and 5 light floatplanes. But you do have to wonder:
1. Were we late to discover the fire? Yes, apparently. Seems to have taken 24 hours to notice.

That is a very interesting angle, I agree! No bets though, as there's a LOT of obscurish types out there.
And an exception to the good point - the Dutch Netherlands East Indies Do 24s were a good size fleet, though not ready for the scale of the Pacific war, of course.

The extremely cool Vought OS2U-3 Kingfisher at Santiago National Air and Space Museum was a fantastic sight. Love/hate those big central floatplanes.

I could sit and watch the floatplanes in the Tofino harbour take off and land for hours. The excitement and the noise of them when they land in a remote lake followed by the total serenity when you kill the engines. The mixed feelings of knowing that the plane is probably older than you are...

In 1915, after a first (failed) attempt to use the converted cruiser "Elba", a merchant ship was transformed by the Italian Navy into the seaplane tender "Europa". She successfully operated at Valona, stowing her floatplanes in two-deck hangars #WW1 #FWW #airwar #aviation #NavalHistory #History #1GM

But... the floatplanes reducing in frequency will be appreciated, for sure. They sound like a riding lawnmower mated with a drunk bee.

It was right next to, and I mean RIGHT next to the municipal airport on the island, and the seaplane lake. All the windows faced the airport, so you could watch all kinds of planes and floatplanes taking off through the fog or coming into land…
