#fushimi-inari
Fushimi Inari felt less special when I noticed the names carved into the tori and looked up what they were (the names of the people/businesses that donated the tori). It suddenly felt like "selling indulgences". Thankfully, I visited before AI tourist stuff existed and before tourism peaked.

It has been 1 year since we bond our fates together under the grey rainy clouds at Fushimi Inari. Love you so much @mayrivers.bsky.social - you were silly enough to say yes to being my wifey 💜💙

In Tokyo, teamLab Planets and Ninja Tokyo were both a lot of fun!

In Kyoto, Fushimi Inari is a good hike – crowds were pretty heavy at the base, but thin out as you head up the mountain.

If you want to be attacked by deer, Nara is a must-see!

I visited Japan for the first time ever and it was an absolute blast. So many things were left to see... definitely going back sometime!

Over tourism also sucks.

Fushimi Inari is a shrine my mom side of the family has been going to for generations (because they operated a business and grand-grand dad was a priest).

But now, it is just SO crowded and shops are selling wagyu burger for 6000 yen, which is like a 4x ripoff.

Also, who’s fursona is this?

This was on Fushimi Inari Mountain. lol

Sucks that Fushimi Inari vendors are selling AI generated art of spiritual entities.

It is so classless and it is just so so shameful.

we were approached by some middle schoolers at Fushimi Inari a few years back, 2022 or 23, who clearly had a “speak to foreigners” assignment

was fun engaging with them! especially revealing at the end that we’d been English teachers for years and could speak Japanese 😊
