Merry Christmas one and all. Nice present from Santa in the form of a cracking male Eastern Black Redstart at Sheringham. Seen down to a few feet, and also a car tick! Also peregrine, kingfisher, Jack snipe, turnstone, 20 avocets, 25 black tailed godwits, a guillemot and 12 gannets at Cley.

Powerful northeasterly pushing up rough seas off Berry Head yesterday. It didn't stop the Gannets feeding but today, Xmas Day, gusts are going to be even stronger!

Maukatia Bay - the Colony of Gannets.
The perfect place to go after Christmas lunch

This vegan sponge tray bake doesn't look much but it dissappears within 24 hours in this house once the gannets arrive. Everybody loves this one.
I prefer it to a traditional sponge cake and it's easier to make too.

A cynophobic postman is found pecked to death by gannets. Suspicion falls on Drooping Point’s UFO buff, deeply concerned that late capitalism might threaten the collapse of the local stone circle.

Gannets are my favourite sea birds. Thank you - that's a precious shot!

In poor early morning light I was treated to a view of this Great Northern Diver flying south round Berry Head.
In the strong south easterly several Fulmars were skimming the face of the cliff and missing the rock face by inches.
In Torbay about 200 Gannets were diving for fish.

Gannets have just one chick a year and a group of men club them to death for "tradition"

that this ~700-page book contains in its marginal decorations ~170 drawings of British #birds, including cormorants, gannets, moorhens, storks, European robins, chaffinches & mallards, as well as other birds that cannot be readily identified. There’s even an entire book written about the birds in

there was an older latino man fishing at the end of the pier. as soon as he saw i had binoculars he shouted out to me- “GANNETS!!” he told me it was the first day this season the gannets were back. He was happy too.

I rather like the occasional winter shot of the #BassRock, #NorthBerwick #EastLothian - now that we’ve reached the longest day of the year it’s only 8-10 weeks until the #gannets are back

It is special, isn't it. I only visit in winter when you can almost have it to yourself if the weather doesn't attract the crowds. Amazing to watch huge rollers coming into the bay, with Red-throated Divers surfing the wave and a few Gannets plunge-diving. Nadolig llawen i ti.
