I hated everything about the pandemic! #gentlecomics #TheJerk
In a possibly too subtle nod to The Jerk, cartoonist Mike Dawson is sitting at his desk with papers strewn across, wearing a robe and ranting about how he hated the pandemic. He declares he can barely stand to be reminded of any part of what it was like to live through, it brings up nothing but terrible feelings, he hated every aspect He stops himself however, and admits, he did like that brief window in the beginning when almost everybody showed themselves willing and capable of adjusting their everyday behavior out of a sense of the greater good, it did feel like for a moment that we really do live in a society, but apart from that he HATED EVERYTHING about the pandemic!! Though, he must admit, it was also good to see the government showing itself capable of taking action to help and improve lives, paying people to stay home, lifting children out of poverty. Aside from that, and aside from the feeling that we were all in this together, Mike Dawson HATED EVERYTHING about the pandemic! Last thing, however, Mike also has to admit, Covid did reveal to all the inequalities that have always been there, it forced us to see who was getting sick, and how dependent we all are on their labor, and it was good how during the worst of the epidemic, people took to the streets in the largest uprisings for racial justice in decades, and everybody saw plainly the nature of policing, before the backlash, when for a moment it felt like things would finally change, so apart from that, and the feeling that we were all connected, and the proof that a more robust social safety net was possible, Mike Dawson HATED EVERYTHING ABOUT THE PANDEMIC!
