West Frisian is a complex language, and the translation might not be perfect. West Frisian is part of the #Anglo-Frisian branch of the West #Germaniclanguages, which also includes English and other Frisian languages. #WestFrisian is closely related to #English #Europe

I'm learning Afrikaans and noticed this similarity with Old English #germaniclanguages #oldenglish #historyofenglish
Die band met Afrikaans is so duidelik.
When an Old English infinitive was used with 'to', its form changed:

- Iċ sċeal ETAN (I shall EAT)
- Iċ begann tō ETENNE (I began to EAT)

This was its dative case.

Yes, even infinitives had case back then!

Frisian still does this:
- Ik sil ITE
- Ik begûn te ITEN

#FunFacts! Despite common #romanticization and #neopagan #practices, runes were simply a way to write #Germaniclanguages, and each group developed them how they saw fit (e.g. #AngloSaxon #Futhorc, the #Scandinavian #YoungerFuthark, etc). In fact, some inscribers had fun with their own inscriptions!
