Venom can use balls to protect his grab attempt from being heavily punished via backdash in 2 ways: A "lagging the ball" setup, & a harder "leading the ball" one, which can also cover for neutral jumps sometimes.

Been field testing an oki setup where you have S-ball hit as a cross up, and then you do back airdash jH RRC. If the ball hits, jH combos and you convert. If it's blocked, then the jH will hit as an "uncross up"
