Black-tailed #godwit WARNSERPOLDER from Friesland is a celebrity (e.g. x.com/GlobalFlyway...). Antonio Alcocer photographed it at L'Albufera wetland Valencia, Spain. This first obervation of this season on 6 Feb tallies well with the dates in 2020-2024 (6, 15, 9, 7 & 12 Feb, resp.). #skries #grutto

More on Storm
GPS-Spoonbill Storm was tagged as an adult female on Schiermonnikoog early June 2024. She left the Wadden Sea early, on Jul 31, to spend 12 days in Oostvaardersplassen, from where she would start her journey out of the Netherlands per @GlobalFlyway on twitter
Spoony Storm NH45 is currently on the DWT Brownsea lagoon with the main Poole Harbour Spoony flock
We saw Storm yesterday from the @harbourbirds.bsky.social bird boat as saw the red/white rings, but not aware if anybody confirmed the ring no

In 2018 China's Yancheng nominated 1st two (eventually incl. Tiaozini, helped by sat tagging data eg of @GlobalFlyway) of 16 Yellow Sea coast #WorldHeritage sites & via a State Council Circular China banned further coastal wetland reclamation http://bit.ly/3f5Kfpl.

Yes! As expected, the @GlobalFlyway bar-tailed godwit who was at Tongzhu has moved on to her usual staging spot at Qingdao. Interesting how these Australian godwits (L. l. menzbieri) apparently use the W side of the Yellow Sea, with the NZ godwits (L. l. baueri) on the E side.

The 2 @GlobalFlyway bar-tailed godwits are back in Jiangsu for 9th time tagged at #Broome #WesternAustralia. Direct flights! 1, as ever, is at Yancheng #WorldHeritage Site. The other is @ Tongzhu Port which we worry may be subject to potentially damaging reclamation & dredging?

PRIVILEGE following this @GlobalFlyway bar-tailed godwit for all 8 migratory journeys since tagging in Oct 2015 @ #RoebuckBay Oz. Her Yellow Sea staging site at Yancheng is now a #WorldHeritageSite. What about her other regular sites Yakutia nest site? New Siberian Is? Tugur Bay?
December 15, 2024 at 1:31 PM
YES! After her Sulawesi stop, the Yancheng @GlobalFlyway bar-tailed godwit was yesterday, within 2 hrs of arrival, seen safely back at #RoebuckBay #Broome (where tagged in 2017.) Last week's Yancheng conference debated how to rid Yancheng's tidal flats of invasive alien Spartina.

The Qingdao @GlobalFlyway bar-tailed godwit is back in Oz & Yancheng bird in S Sulawesi (later than 2017, 2018 & different coast than 2018) while in Yancheng we celebrated its #WorldHeritage inscription & launched logo of Alliance of 14+ Phase 2 sites for WH nomination by 2022.

As we prepare to meet in Yancheng, 27-30 Sept, for the Yellow/Bohai Sea World Heritage Conference: Conservation Management & Sustainable Dvlpmnt, the Yancheng @GlobalFlyway Bar-tailed Godwit is already 2 days down the flyway to Oz, over Luzon PHL; the Qingdao bird also on her way
December 15, 2024 at 5:59 PM
The 2 @GlobalFlyway sat-tagged bar-tailed godwits are at their usual Jiangsu Yellow Sea staging sites: Qingdao & Yancheng. Sadly we won't see the #Yancheng bird at the Yancheng Festival 28-30 Sept, as she was in SW Sulawesi by 28 Sept in 2018 & 2017 en route to Oz. #ornithology

The Qingdao @GlobalFlyway barwit is nearly back at Qingdao for the first time since late May. The Yancheng bird looks like she is just setting off S again after spending some days on the Tumen Estuary along the Russian/North Korean border. #ornithology #shorebirds #waders

Gosh! The Yancheng @GlobalFlyway barwit's actually stopped at DPRK-Russia border! A yr ago it was already at Yancheng after a stop nr Incheon, RoK & in 2017 went direct to Yancheng. The other bird, now flying over Amur, was in Qingdao in 2018 & had moved on to Lianyungang in 2017
