Theme this time is invention and innovation, so plenty of #histsci and #histech among the new fibres and Lancashire looms.

There are sorts of surprises associated with Play-Doh. Invented in Cincinnati, OH, it was a modified version of a wall paper cleaner. Pay-doh was made popular by its appearance on the children's TV show Captain Kangaroo. www.markstrecker.com/invention-of... #histsci #histech #ohiohistory

Bikes in their modern form have existed since 1866, yet it wasn't until 1899 that someone in OH thought to make a padded seat. It made its inventor, Arthur Lovett Garford, millions with which he built his mansion, The Hickories. www.markstrecker.com/invention-of... #histsci #histech #ohiohistory

When you request an archival record on #EarlyModern armormaking, expecting the usual: pages & pages of (illegible) text, but on its opening pages find: depictions of the assemblage of armor and several individual screws 🔩 ❤️ It's good a day.

The iconic Klondike Bar was invented by someone at Isaly’s Dairy Company in 1922, which was based in Mansfield, OH. You couldn't get one unless you lived in OH or PA until 1978 when they started going national. www.markstrecker.com/invention-of... #ohiohistory #histsci #histech #histsci

The gas mask was invented by African American Garrett A. Morgan in Cleveland in 1912. In 1916 he use led a rescue mission using them after gas explosion under Lake Erie, only to have newspapers not report his heroism! www.markstrecker.com/invention-of... #histsci#histech#ohiohistory#radicalhistory
