Ein knapp ein Meter hoher, kegelförmiger Steinhaufen in einer Sandebene. Es ist eine Fumarole, aus der seitlich heißer Wasserdampf austritt.

Paysage assez lunaire, ou plutôt martien. Un cratère noirâtre, duquel s'échappent des fumerolles, sur un sol sans végétation, rouge-orangé et blanchâtre. En arrière-plan des collines rougeâtres. Le coin de ciel visible est nuageux.

Grün ist eine Farbe die man hier vergeblich sucht. Und überall der Schwefelgestank im Hexenkessel von Hverarönd!

Hverarönd heisst dieser Hexenkessel am Námaskarð-Pass und liegt nur wenige Kilometer südöstlich des Calderavulkanes Krafla. 🇮🇸
