Labour is the party of devolution - it will not close Holyrood

The SNP need to get over 50% of the popular vote in Scotland for a sustained period and seize the moment to lever another IndyRef out of Westminster if the chance presents itself

Otherwise, forget independence

I spent the best part of 2 years at bet365 as a scalability guru 2013-2014 (and mostly missed IndyRef communting down on a Monday and up on a Friday)

bet365 were stuck at $600m turnover A WEEK and one of my jobs was to help them fix that (move to Erlang/NoSQL) which we did

2/ Only with a single indy party with an outright majority from the people of Scotland, has WM listened and actioned a S30 to hold an indyref. The past evidence shows all of this. Little point in being a big, loud but toothless lion. Better to be the smaller lioness with all her teeth and bite.

The BBC have been a big problem for a long time. Especially if one is from Scotland and been witnessing it since before Indyref 1. They love to lie abou and talk down Scotland. I stopped watching it over 10 yrs ago.

A lot of left leaning Scots like me deserted the toxic branch in run up to Indyref. A lot of what’s left now are hard core BritNats and greasy pole climbers, susceptible to Farages message and the money funding him.
John Curtice: “this poll [...] does underline the way in which Labour north of the Border are vulnerable to Reform, because [...] – once you take the don't knows out – you've got a slightly higher proportion of 2024 Labour voters switching to Reform than 2024 Conservative voters.”
Professor John Curtice has given his verdict on a new Holyrood poll from Ipsos

I used Google to look up the current time in Scotland. It had some other question suggestions. I clicked one for fun. #scottishindependence #scotref #indyref

i do think we underestimate the possibility of PSPP winning a CAQ level majority and then alienating Quebec's cultural industry among others while they try and accelerate towards IndyRef 3

.
Offal is, as we say in Scotland "fulla shite".
He claims
"I went to London with £2,000 and worked hard"
He'd secured a job in a Merchant Bank before he went down.

"I only got into politics 4 years ago"
He was an Adviser to Ian Duncan-Smith for years, and ran 'Vote No Borders' in 2014 Indyref.

My third measure, political weighting, is the only one which is (partly) subjective. There is mixed evidence on the value of using any political weights. But it is indisputable that using weighting from a 10 year old election is problematic. This is exacerbated by the age profile of Yes & No voters.
December 11, 2025 at 3:35 PM
Ah but it serves to keep the number lower and stave off another dratted indyref and keep people thinking nothing much gas changed in 11 yrs.

Ipsos asked Scottish voters how a Reform UK Government would change their views on Scottish Independence. As you can see, this hypothetical #Indyref2 scenario boosts the Yes vote by 13 points to 57%. Excluding those undecided this would take the Yes vote to 61%.

You often hear English voters moaning having free prescriptions, bus passes etc. yet not one of their politicians ever pushes to allow Indyref 2
They've still not got over the shock of almost losing 2014.

Wait until they find out about the Scottish IndyRef from 2014.
December 10, 2025 at 7:59 PM
We’ve been here before unfortunately.
If we Brexit, I’ll vote for Indy.
If BJ becomes PM, I’ll vote for Indy.
And yet here we are.
Ironically, if NF becomes the next PM, the chances of an indyref are less than zero (mathematically impossible but bare with) so the point is moot.
December 10, 2025 at 3:47 PM
I fully agree. The difference between the bollox Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage were able to spout during the EU referendum was such a contrast compared to what Salmond was meant to explain during the indyref.
December 10, 2025 at 2:19 PM
Scotland will never get another indyref while the polls indicate there is even a small likelihood we might vote Yes. UKGov will always tell us "now is not the time."
quite frankly they'd be stupid to allow us to leave if they can possibly prevent it. they need our energy, oil, water, Faslane etc.
December 10, 2025 at 11:57 AM
Compared to the coordinated and united campaign in Scotland (SNP, Labour, Tory, Green, LibDems who 2 years before fought IndyRef), he might as well have come out as a Leaver.

He was terrible.
December 10, 2025 at 7:33 AM
The SNP still had PQ style accusations of being ethnonationalist adjacent basically into the Salmond era right (albeit I doubt an SNP leader would have blamed the indyref result on “money and the ethnic vote” or denounced Gordon Brown for having an insufficiently Scottish name)
December 9, 2025 at 3:11 PM
I was on Twitter during the first Indyref. Some of the abuse against English people just for being English that I witnessed stays with me.

You are a lot like Brexiteers.
December 9, 2025 at 9:15 AM
You are very optimistic! Westminster will continue to say No to IndyRef 2 and getting international recognition will take decades. Until we have polling for independence at 60% +, Westminster will never consider a referendum. They have all the cards, unless the SNP grow a spine and start acting.

Byline Times mentions Russia’s failed interference in Scottish 2014 indyref. There’s no way Russia wants the dis-UK to stay together .. it would intervene on the side of independence .. good thing?

It will be very interesting to see how this plays out if we ever get another Indyref. I have the suspicion that a decade of treating supporting the SNP like it belongs in the DSM-5 will make similar claims about the dangers of independence ring rather hollow for a lot of people.
