Fun fact: isinglass is an ingredient used in some beers 🍻 to speed up the process of making them look clear and not-hazy. Isinglass is from the swim bladders of fish 🐟

from the unmarred dead body of the whale, you may scrape off with your hand an infinitely thin, transparent substance, somewhat resembling the thinnest shreds of isinglass, only it is almost as flexible and soft as satin

Cleaning the Eisenglass today so we can see the thunderstorms that are expected to hit us this afternoon.
We use IMAR Eisenglass and Strataglass cleaner and have been pretty happy with the results.

I'm not vegan but make sure any alcohol I buy from supermarket is marked vegan cause why would you use animal products like isinglass when you don't have to.
Seems many winemakers etc are moving towards vegan alternatives thankfully.
I mostly fail at checking this if I am at a bar/restaurant.

Making Isinglass in our paper conservation studio. Isinglass is used to consolidate parchment.
Parchment is made from treated animal skins, which is why the consolidant used is different to those more commonly used in our Paper studio for works on paper.

Isinglass, a collagen from fish swim bladders, is commonly used as a beer fining to clarify beer and can leave trace amounts in some brews.

Some folks would lament the removal of alcohol and isinglass from Guinness. Personally, I don't feel any different except for that sharp end from the booze. It'll probably even go well mixed with sparkling wine.

Did you know that not all wines and beers are vegan? One reason for this is that some processes use isinglass which is derived from the dried swim bladders of fish💔

Looking up lagers to see which ones contain dried fish guts is necessary. Personally, I should be avoiding alcohol because of mental illness, medications and playing no part in cruelty. Generally, those horrible lagers should be avoided until their brewery learns isinglass is an awful ingredient.

Ironically I do the occasional homebrew, and as far as I can remember every single beer I've brewed since starting in 2012 has been unfined, so all as natural as possible with no gelatine or Isinglass.

Actually not all beer is vegan. Some still use isinglass 🐟 to filter in processing. That’s great tho on your son being an extreme athlete & vegan. I’m overweight & workout. Mostly eat whole foods like beans, oats, nuts, veg fruit but carbs my weakness like pretzels. Plus I’m 61 so thanks menopause 😆
