This is a follow-up post for the normal TWHD, I ran out of character space to do the American Mistletoe article so the rest of it is in the alt text of the image.
There are some studies that seem to suggest that American Mistletoe is far less poisonous than its European counterpart this is not an endorsement to start doing anything crazy like making a Mistletoe salad, but you should know and act accordingly with good information. I do have to note here, that European Mistletoe is an ingredient of Biska a pomace based brandy made in Istria, so even the poisonous one can be used for something. Also there is some Cancer research that uses Mistletoe extract to affect the immune system and may be able to kill certain types of cancer cells. Either way when seen in nature around town, our native population of American Mistletoe is one of the best indicators that winter is here and with it the holidays and soon the New Year. Depends on the context. For Italian speaking Triestini, Slovene and Croat are probably still one and the same, they are simply slavo. Slavic speakers in Istria also did not see a clear distinction for a long time; the language they spoke was simply "our language" and not Croat or Slovene. 1/2
