Lurpak would take up over 10% of an under 25’s Jobseeker Allowance for a week. It is these cost of living issues that we need to address. And there are other butters and spreads available at less cost certainly, but we are not talking about people in poverty asking to live only on lobster

This is what people mean by 'welfare for the rich'.

"The richest 10% of households get more money from the tax discount than the government spends on Jobseeker, the child-care subsidy, government schools or higher education" & more than it would cost to include dental in Medicare

“The richest 10% of households get more money from the capital gains tax discount than the government spends on Jobseeker, the child-care subsidy, government schools or higher education. They get nearly $4.5bn more than it would cost the government to include dental in Medicare.”

The richest 10% get more money from the capital gains tax discount than the government spends individually on Jobseeker, or child-care subsidy, or govt schools or higher ed.
They get nearly $4.5bn more than it would cost to include dental in Medicare:

A good, reformist govt would make the case for change.
If only we had one. #auspol

job atm is.. iffy 🤔 I’m pretty open to law or BA or Graphics/Sound Design/3D modelling work depending on whatever is out there + I can get on jobseeker but hhh 😞

At the least the plan is to be part time so I can still do shop/art stuff like 2 days a week until I decide what to do for life,,,

"…we have a system where each year the richest 10% get nearly $22bn a year in tax breaks to use superannuation – nearly double the $12.2bn the government spends funding public schools and $5bn more than the $16.9bn spent on jobseeker."
“Aust Bureau of Statistics reveal just how much average Australian earns. Being “rich” might not see you living like Kardashian but we need to acknowledge that earning more than 90% people puts you in top 10%, & much of tax system is geared to benefit you.”

Greg Jericho: “The current full-time minimum wage $49,296 bottom 10% full-time earners. Jobseeker rate, annual earnings $20,634, bottom 10%.

So, let’s dispense with the bullshit that such amounts in any way discourage people from wanting to work or are too high to run a business.” #auspol

Greg Jerico: “Australia does not have an official poverty line and so we rely only on the 1972 definition of the Henderson Poverty Line, which is not comparable to international measures.

Even given that, a single person on jobseeker is living about 40% below the poverty line.”

Anglicare Australia surveyed 51,238 rentals. 0.7% affordable on min wage. 0.3% on the Age Pension. 3 on JobSeeker. Zero on Youth Allowance. Australia is prosperous and still chooses mass housing insecurity.

Getting rid of capital gains tax discount for the richest 10% of Australian households would let the government put dental in Medicare and have billions left over. It costs even more than JobSeeker.

'No' is the simple answer. Lower debt costs will mean some job growth through the year, jobseeker claimant numbers will stop going up as people take precarious work and MSD turns the screw, GDP figures will go 'up' a bit (whatevs) - but it will all be from a low base and painfully slow. [6/n]

As an aussie who's likewise been complying with our jobseeker for multiple years with no luck, seeing the same problem in NZ hurts. I'm so sorry.

How can social protection policies help? One partial answer is to provide greater support for people with moderate impairments. In Australia, increasing JobSeeker allowance, relaxing income tests, relaxing job search requirements - in other words moving towards a UBI.

If any kiwis would like to know what successful compliance is for jobseeker beneficiaries under this coalition govt,

here's my number of tracked job applications I've made to date.

And I am still unemployed.
