Zero, Pibby, and Toadana all infected by a parasite stemming from their source material, Vanny can be seen hiding between them, also infected. Pibby is corrupted by the Darkness, Toadana has become a coroner zombie, Vanny is possessed by Glitchtrap, but Zero's parasite is more internal, lacking a tell like the rest of them. The Exiled Soldier, a man engulfed in a mass of eyes. Banished to the sewers out of fear of what it could see. They hoped to stop it from watching by putting it somewhere it couldn't see anything, but the dark only made it see more.

Zero in the form of a deep sea mermaid, having green skin, webbed scaly hands, fins, and a fish tail. She looks curiously into an open chest embedded into a rocky wall, reaching out to something glowing a bright golden color from within. Whatever it is remains a mystery, but it's very likely to be gold or some sort of relic. Perhaps it came from the sunken ship that can be seen in the background. Who knows?

Botchy, a porcelain kid with actual eyes instead of black orbs. His age, maturity, and intellect contribute to him assuming the role of unestablished leader for the group of kids Zero meets in chapter 3 of Just Another Zero. Botchy serves as a great source of info about Avorian culture and other topics for Zero (and sometimes the others) to learn about. He is also the first genderfluid person she has ever met. Botchy is more than happy to help Zero understand the concept and what it means, and he's very patient whenever someone (specifically Nina) accidentally messes it up. Whenever Botchy feels more girlish, she takes out a piece of fabric in one of the bags on her belt and sticks it under her hairpiece to make her hair look longer. As for how the hairpiece changes shape, considering it's hard porcelain, even Botchy couldn't tell you that one. Botchy's design came from the same segment of old Just Another Zero chapter 2 that Milli and Blake came from, however, she wasn't a caterpillar at the time, simply a background character who didn't even get a speaking role. The caterpillar bit came from a scrapped concept for the next iteration of chapter 2, being a failed government experiment, a kid attached to a large body with dead soldiers grafted onto it and multiple arms that it used to crawl across the floor like a fat spider. That concept served as the source of inspiration that led to the craft work appearance of Botchy's caterpillar half, and it's also similar to the in universe backstory of how Botchy came to be in the first place.

If you ever need help with a heavy load, Mackie can lend a hand. She's much bigger than most kids in Nowhere, but she's still kid sized. Despite that, she can lift things most adults can't. When she grows up, it's likely she'll be able to literally move mountains. For a while Mackie had a different color palette. Her shirt was purple and her skirt was blue. While making these character profiles, I decided to change the colors to what they are now because I realized she had the exact same color palette as the Witch. I found it hilarious that I never realized, and I thought about keeping it, but then I figured Mackie should have her own style.

Nina, the embodiment of "Never let them know your next move," but usually only for brief moments. The rest of the time, she acts like any kid her age to keep you on your toes about what she'll do or say next and when she'll do it. In Just Another Zero chapter 3, Zero (and by extension, the viewer) are introduced to four new kids at the Avorian Sanctuary, however, Nina is the only one of those four who was actually created FOR chapter 3. Blake was recycled from being a background character in an old draft of chapter 2, and the other two kids were originally standalone concepts I decided to bring into the comic. But we'll get to those two later. For now, who wants to see how many times a rat can survive being stabbed with a pencil?

Blake Leñadez, the first of four new kids Zero meets during her visit to the Avorian Sanctuary in chapter 3 of Just Another Zero. Fun fact: While making chapter 3, I intended for Blake to be the chill older kid who everyone likes, but then that role ended up going to Truls, who I planned to make a selfish bully. Instead, Blake ended up being the selfish jerk and Truls was more social and friendly, at least to anyone who isn't Zero or Blake. That's my favorite part of making Just Another Zero, the fact that the characters write themselves and I discover more about them through their actions and relationships in the story. They don't stay as the base I use when I create them, they grow beyond what they're established as, and that makes the characters feel more alive to me.

The Witch, a cryptic being who lends aid to just about everyone, however her motives and goals are completely unknown. If you look very closely, you can see her skin decaying. The Witch is a rather unique character in Just Another Zero. Her initial purpose in the story was to appear once per chapter to basically give Zero a free pass on any particular obstacle, but it quickly became apparent that was not going to work. I realized the Witch had her own secrets to be discovered, so she became more significant in the plot as it went on.

Truls, a 1:1 for the Bullies from Little Nightmares 2, except he can talk properly. In Just Another Zero, he manages to convince himself that Zero is some lying deceptive attention seeker. That's why he attacks her so much. Like Milli, Truls was initially intended to be a one off for a brief encounter in Just Another Zero. A callback to LN2. But then I decided to bring him back for chapter 3, and then that led to him becoming Zero's rival in the next version of the story. Halfway through Just Another Zero, Truls gets struck in the head, causing him to go blind in one eye. Because he's a porcelain doll, that kind of injury won't just heal. Instead, he'd have to find another porcelain head the same model as his and replace his cracked head with the new one.

Don't be confused. Milli isn't Zero's long lost sister, they just look very similar. She was separated from her adopted family and stranded in a warzone, where Zero meets her. Milli first appeared as a nameless background character that helped Zero for a short segment of chapter 2. In the next draft, she was upgraded to a major character with a backstory and a name.

Mr. Nome, that's what Zero calls him at least. Most nomes are terrified to face the world, but Mr. Nome fears nothing of death. He always seems to know the way forward. Mr. Nome was originally just meant to be a plain old nome Zero ran into on her journey, but with each iteration of the story, I decided to delve more into who he once was: The refugee kid who survived the North Wind.

Zero, the titular protagonist of Just Another Zero. A young girl who grew up at the bottom of a cargo ship unaware of the horrors of the world she lives in. Initially I intended to make her a forgettable character on purpose, who would go on an adventure where everything and everyone else was much more interesting than her, but that backfired and she became one of my favorite creations instead.
