My Laserdisc Remaster of YKK/ Yokohama Shopping Log Vol.2 is now available on Youtube. I've also mirrored it in the usual places. For those who wish to tinker with the files yourself, the original data is available freely on The Internet Archive. Enjoy!

Notes: I did decode vol.1 of YKK, it was mastered poorly. The DVD is better. Something happened in 98 in the Twilight of laserdisc that improved colors, so only the 2nd ep worth throwing on YT. Volumes 3 & 4 never made it to LD, so if I do upload those here, it'll be purely to flex on people.

Two laser discs in today of episode 2 of Giant Robo and the lsst two episodes of Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-ohki, both still in shrinkwrap (minus a year on the plastic on the Tenchi one). And with this, I am done with getting the US laser discs of the Tenchi OVA.

In case you’ve ever wondered what kind of audience the Laserdisc medium was marketed to, consider that Pioneer’s U.S. releases of the Armitage III anime had fully English-language packaging EXCEPT for the spines, which printed the titles in katakana

Génial, mes parents divorcent! LaserDisc paru en France en 93

2 faces CLV
Audio: français stéréo

Certains films marquent par leur art, d'autres par leur capacité à nous replonger en enfance. Ici, c’est l’insouciance des années 90, les goûters BN et les règlements de comptes à la récrée.

Oddly enough I was just at Princeton Record Exchange Wednesday and this was one of the laserdiscs I found for cheap. Pressing play on it sooner than I’d anticipated 💔💔💔

While uncanny valley Autons are the most unsettling on TV, Terrance Dicks’ The Auton Invasion creates such a nightmarish Nestene “many-tentacled monster something between spider, crab and octopus” final factory boss, he inspired artists to evoke the most unforgettable mental image in Target books

I’m gonna have my little Mac mini start upscaling all my vhs and laserdisc encodes in ffmpeg and start tossing them up on a separate YouTube account in 4k.

Back in the 90s, LaserDisc, a CRT projector the size of a couch, and a 100” screen were the bleeding edge of “home cinema”. But it was still 480-lines, and then a letterbox within that. A line-doubler/scaler would get rid of the TV look. But still mushy & dim. Barely watchable, but best we could do.

Notes: As with the previous release, finding a Laserdisc of this that works is beyond me. In theory, stacking 5 copies of the LD & then color correcting it is the way to go, but as this Anime is notoriously known for being susceptible to Laser Rot, this is the best we get. Still a massive upgrade.

The Bride with White Hair. LaserDisc paru aux Etats-Unis en 96

Un joyau du cinéma fantastique HK! Mise en scène flamboyante, acteurs incandescents… The Bride with White Hair est de ces films qui hantent durablement la mémoire cinéphile.

Now playing: Phil Collins - Live At Perkins Palace [Yess, Editions: Young Energetic Sounds Society]

I keep seeing this fucking album everywhere on LaserDisc, did the factory that produced this concert film shut down and had leftover stoxk or something? Why is it so bloody common.

ever since I was a kid I've loved that name. it's too bad I'm not 5% more of a furry or I would 100% be known as Laser Wolf.

Fun fact: I got special labels printed for my copies of Fiddler on the Roof, for it is on LAZAR DISC!

Mailbag Day!

Believe it or not, it's more Tenchi! Near the end of the OG 90s OVA release from the US and also cane across the second episode of the Pretty Sammy spinoff OVA too. More US laserdisc releases are also on the way to me over the next week. So stay tuned for more!
