Our paper on the phenomenon of persistence and latency in Ebola virus in an unobserved reservoir is finally out in preprint: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
Evidence of latency reshapes our understanding of Ebola virus reservoir dynamics
Ebola virus (EBOV) has caused severe outbreaks of haemorrhagic fever in Central and West Africa since the first observed zoonotic epidemic in the late 1970s. While recent outbreaks have revealed much ...

I suspect we'll see a low-latency, production equivalent to the "data lake". Meant for high QPS, rapid-fire lookups from agents rather than high-throughput, high-latency DWH queries. All data centralized in one place rather than querying a bunch of different web services.

Proactively speed up future requests with dns-prefetch → goo.gle/4q1uO3I
Now part of Baseline, this hint tells the browser to perform DNS lookups for other origins in the background, reducing latency for your users.

If you're a writer/creator and you're looking for a basic laptop to use for work, I cannot stress this enough:
An i3 processor is the MINIMUM for your CPU.
Why? Because if you want to do any kind of multitasking and not re-live the early '00s for latency and speed, i3 is it. 1/2

Pourquoi Unkey abandonne les architectures serverless :
➡️ 6 moins fois de latence
➡️ Moins de solutions de contournement

Ebola virus in Kasai revives 50-year-old questions on viral latency
On Sept 4, 2025, DR Congo declared its 16th Ebola virus outbreak. The epicentre of
this outbreak occurred in the Kasai province—the first resurgence in this region since

The problem with scaling based on utilization is that no one knows what a good number is. "Will our customers be happy if we use our machines at 80% or 40%" is an unanswerable question. Queue times make the impact on customers clear: "will my users accept +200ms of latency?"

Audio latency is completely fine. There's a little interface lag.

just give me low latency without the extra bullshit pleaseeee

Power treats law as latency and routes around it.
This is the same issue we see with 1A: don’t ban speech, just make the infrastructure of speech contingent.
Bonus: no one knows how to defend against it in bumper-sticker form.

And now I have a perfectly working capture card in Linux so life is Very Good
Audio latency also seems better???? Though maybe that's just because I'm not running all my audio through a Voicemeeter equivalent anymore
Still have yet to find one - though maybe I don't really need one

As trading activity spiked, exchanges went down or suffered outages that prevented people from placing trades or shoring up their positions. Binance, Coinbase, Kraken, Robinhood, and several other major platforms were all reported to experience significant service interruptions.

NEW PAPER: do common ravens show consistent boldness–shyness responses to risk? Reactions of individually marked ravens vary by age but not over time. Ravens fear bird-of-prey calls more than gunshots, suggesting flexible, not fixed, personalities.

The whole labeler business is kind of absurd to me, because to really do it fairly, you have to understand how concepts like cache invalidation and aggregation latency would apply. I mean, I got hit with an r-slur blocklist once because I used the word itself in discussing a hypothetical post.

not going to happen music production environments are unstable enough as is, it's not a question of running the program, it's integrating the program with plugins and hardware such that we can achieve 5ms round trip latency & perfect reliability with all our tools present

Fine-tuning player latency with Amazon GameLift Servers
If you’ve launched an online multi-player game, you’re aware that few things are as frustrating (and perhaps inevitable) as forum complaints about latency. It can often be challenging to separate issues which you can influence (proximity of servers or code optimization) from problems outside of your control (under-sized hardware or network issues on the player [...]

Testing the latency in USB keyboard mode with VICE and David’s Midnight Magic. This succss when there is latency. 120/sec scan rate feels as good as the regular keyboard. I have also added VICE soft and hard reset and attach disk and cartridge image to the additional two buttons.

一見 latency が問題になりそうなんだけど,
1. ユーザの入力 → search(query) ツールをもつ LLM で処理
2. search(query) の内部実装:別の LLM が fullTextSearch(query) を反復的に実行
という階層構造にして search(query) のレイヤでキャッシュすると LLM が生成する query の多様性が小さいので実用上かなりうまくいく.つまり 1 が query rewriting agent で 2 が search agent という立て付け.

I'm just not used to nanoseconds of latency making a difference but it turns out scanout is fast and being over two orders of magnitude faster than the real hardware doesn't save me if an irq is still taking 1000 cycles at the wrong time
