#lawlesspresidency
Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson rightly dissected SCOTUS's recent decisions as disempowering the lower courts of the federal judiciary in order to assert its own power to give sanction to a #lawlesspresidency.
Breaking news: Federal immigration officers may deport immigrants with as little as six hours’ notice to countries other than their own, even without assurances that the arrivals will be safe from persecution or torture, a top official said.
ICE memo outlines plan to deport migrants to countries where they are not citizens
The dramatic shift in policy could result in thousands of immigrants being deported to places where they lack family ties or even a common language.

True. And not just on the trade front. #lawlesspresidency.
Not how the global economy is supposed to work, and not how US economic policy-making is supposed to work either:

Under the Constitution, Congress regulates trade. The president can take some action in emergencies, which these clearly are not.

The US is not operating under the Constitution.
This is, emphatically, not the way it’s supposed to work.

And I guess here’s where I should remind everyone that the global economy is captive to the every whim of a man who doesn’t understand how the global economy works

This should NEVER have happened in the first place.
Thanks SCOTUS for letting this presidency get away with lawlessness and no accountability!

All of it is lawless. From invoking an 18th century law on false grounds to kidnapping persons off the street to wrongful imprisonment to illegal transfer to a foreign torture prison. All of it violates the Constitution & domestic & international laws. Add this statute. #lawlesspresidency.
A U.S. law bars the State Dept. from $$$ support of “'units of foreign security forces' — which can include military and law enforcement staff in prisons — facing credible allegations of gross human rights violations." Such as the money going to El Salvador's CECOT? [@arianalfigueroa.bsky.social]
Experts: $6 million payment to Salvadoran prison likely violates U.S. human rights law - Maryland Matters
The U.S. is paying El Salvador $6 million to house hundreds of immigrants deported from here. But in doing so, it may be violating a law that bars financial support of “units of foreign security force...

As we shouldn't accept a #lawlesspresidency, we shouldn't accept an anti-constitutional SCOTUS. If Roberts can't get a majority to defend the most basic of rights, we can no longer consider SCOTUS the arbiter of *any* rights. A decision for the government should bring massive civic resistance. 2/2

was a normal response to tyranny, chaos, genocide & total war. History isn't undone in op-ed columns. Nor is Trump/ism normal b/c he narrowly won an election. Let an outcry rise into a whirlwind against a #lawlesspresidency. Build opposition. Speak up. Speak out. That is what's normal. 5/5

The furious pace of obviously illegal acts hard to even process, much less to fight. Scariest part to ponder is the utter lack of any future consequences. At worst, a single news cycle with mixed coverage. In the end, one of a thousand cuts to Democracy and rule of law. #LawlessPresidency
The funding pause orders "are actually the most lawless, brazen, unconstitutional actions that this administration has yet taken, and if sanctioned by a conservative Supreme Court, they would amount to a full disbanding of our system of government." From @ddayen.bsky.social:
Trump’s Most Lawless Action Yet
Pausing funds appropriated by Congress is a deliberate taunt to draw a legal challenge that the White House’s most radical architects think will give them unilateral spending power.

the incessant, relentless, and furious pace of illegal actions is honestly hard to even process, much less fight. The scariest part is the combination of the brazen nature of the illegal acts, plus the utter and complete lack of any meaningful consequences. #LawlessPresidency

Correct. It is a catastrophe.
And not "likely" unlawful. Let's not mince words: IT VIOLATES THE LAW AND THE EXPRESS WILL OF CONGRESS. Not to mention being unconstitutional. (Rubio swore an oath to faithfully execute the laws, an impossibility w/ the stop work order.)
#lawlesspresidency.
Trump's near-total halt of foreign aid, which is likely unlawful, is already a catastrophe for millions of people who rely on American programs for survival—HIV patients in Africa, religious minorities in the Middle East, dissidents in Venezuela ... www.justsecurity.org/106876/us-fo...

True. I would say even more: the DEI Executive Order (like SCOTUS) turns the law on its head & makes it the policy of the US government to reverse all compliance with Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act & government orders based on EEOC Guidance regarding Title VII. #lawlesspresidency
We should be clear that the language in the anti “DEI” executive order and the subsequent letter sent to federal employees to turn in colleagues who try to “disguise” DEI under other names means hires and promotions of Black and other POC will be deemed suspicious. www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...
