Relative lives in Surrey, same thing, can’t vote Labour so votes LD. Will be interesting to see the 2nd preferences (Wales is getting a form of PR, soon).

Will voters switch to LD or Green in sufficient numbers to knock out ReformUK? We can only hope so.

FWIW - campaigning stats: i got 2 leaflets from lib dems, 2 from reform (*spits*), 1 from the labour candidate & a letter from the striking bin workers telling me not to vote LD or Lab. nowt green or con & a car w/megaphone yelling about one ind candidate but couldn't hear which one...

Single Transferable Vote is the best solution for the issue defined in Sam's post. The situation is complex so offering a preference (e.g. Green, Labour, LD) is essential to accurately represent the mood of the electorate

I agree to a point but I do think this is overly complacent I’m afraid. It is becoming very hard to pick the tactical option in many places - look at the West of England Mayoral where it was an even split - LD, Green, Lab, Ref. Ref nearly won a seat on ~21%.

Anti Tory was a lot simpler than anti Reform but also don't like the current government

Some will be "any Left" and others won't. Another group won't consider LD as Left for this purpose

I think there's a challenge for a Left voter in a Lab seat held (primarily) because LD ran flat/voted tactically in 2024.

Because LD might be better placed than Greens, or might not. But it probably isn't Labour in those.

Suspect my London Labour seat remains Lab anyway so easy for me

It's also 43 REF/CON plays 50 LAB/LD/GR. Labour is now exactly 40% of the left bloc and needs to act like it
It's easy to look at stuff like this and assume the next general election is going to a mess. But there are 650 individual contests — in which voters are pretty adept at working out which lever they need to pull to get the result they want.

Could also be:
• A bin strike fast approaching its one-year anniversary
• Labour leading the city to bankruptcy
• Already having a really popular LD Councillor in the ward (@izzyknowles.bsky.social )
• An impressive LD ground campaign

There is a ceiling to the Reform vote.
It is up to the voters* of Labour, LD, Green, SNP and Plaid to ensure they don't win seats.

*Doubt whether they'll be any official pacts

I still have the original Laserdisc version of Star Wars.

My very first two Laserdiscs after I purchased my first LD player were "Star Wars" and "Xanadu".

You can criticize my choices all you like, but that last statement remains a good sample of my core values.

So, at least be kind...
