For different reasons yet through the same shared experience of transphobia, both Leelah and Lia should still be here today. As should so many of our sisters and siblings. I can do no more but grieve.

It was clear that this poor young woman was being denied her basic humanity by her parents. And conversion therapy is a form of abuse, even if it does not reach the legal definition (or at least didn't in Ohio before Leelah).

I wasn't too familiar with Leelah Alcorn's life and death before this week beyond the broad strokes. Reading her suicide note for the first time, I was reminded of how in social work, we are supposed to, if possible, reunite LGBTQIA+ runaways w/their parents. Been struggling with that.

it never gets any easier to write these. I've been piecing my heart back together since I first read about Leelah Alcorn's death, before I even knew I was trans. I hope a day comes when none of us have to write these memorials. if you're struggling, please reach out to somebody, and stay with us.

Leelah Alcorn's death really impacted me. I was 14 when she died. I had literally just come out to my parents and while they didn't take me out of school, they alienated me from my friends and isolated me from anyone who affirmed me. I wish we still talked about her.

It wouldn't bring her back, and it won't create justice, but I still believe that Leelah Alcorn's parents should be ... ... ... Treated as murderers.
When Leelah Alcorn committed suicide after her parents removed her from school and sent her to Christian conversion therapy after she came out as trans, it was a national story, was talked about by Obama, and spurred a ban on conversion therapy. Would it get that level of attention today?
it’s absolutely ridiculous that not a single national media outlet has picked this story up yet except for “lgbtq+ news” and fox! it’s been 12 hours!

a trans girl in vermont was kicked off her swimming team and committed suicide and at the very same time, the discourse in d.c. today is about whether the democratic party should’ve abandoned her sooner in order to win votes

Absolutely heartbreaking. Leelah wanted and needed acceptance, just like we all do. 💔

eek, sorry if it wasnt clear, this was not an autobiographical story, im just a storyteller x_x
it was based loosely off of leelah alcorn, my first experience with understanding that the world and our own parents often prefer us dead. it was 2014, i saw firsthand everything unfold on tumblr

Part 2: The story of Leelah Alcorn is a vitally important one to remember during this time (and one that has some personal connections)

Was doing research for a project and found a database of global publicly recorded trans deaths by violence, which included suicide. Remembered Leelah Alcorn from when I was in HS. Decided to see how many people have died in the years that I’ve been out. Almost 4,000. I wish this world deserved us.

Actually kind of lol at imagining the post-Trump firings FBI tryna make this work and getting ran like dogs by the sheer force of finesse that is trans community scammers. Theyre about to get taken for a ride by the Zazzle terfs and that they/them pastor who ripped off the Leelah Alcorn fundraiser.
