#libreoffice
Use LibreOffice instead and if someone actually needs Word files, "Save As"?

I stopped using anything from M$ years ago and my world is a much better place.

I can't believe I've reached this point of Linux guydom but the way to get rid of this Copilot shit is to use LibreOffice instead
Is there a way to get this mind-numbing Co-Pilot shit off Microsoft Word?

OR you could just install Libreoffice on Windows. I also know Only Office has a PDF editor. Both are free for everyone :)

Our next major release is coming up – help us to test it! #LibreOffice 26.2 is due in February, and now the first beta is available: qa.blog.documentfoundation.org/2025/12/11/l...

I'm gonna get yelled at for this, but you can download LibreOffice for free. You do have to learn a slightly different interface, but you never have to worry about this AI enshittification drive MS is on. The time has never been better to switch.

Lots of improvements are coming to #LibreOffice – such as better Natural Sort in Calc data ranges. Find out more in the development and QA blog report for November 2025: qa.blog.documentfoundation.org/2025/12/15/q...

Nimm lieber LibreOffice statt OpenOfice, ist bei den meisten Linux Distros auch schon vorinstalliert!

I found switching to LibreOffice suite helped.

I have been exclusively using libreoffice for over a decade, so no that will not be a problem.
December 13, 2025 at 8:09 PM
Agreed. I've been using LibreOffice for years with very few problems

LibreOffice Writer has no mind-numbing copilot shit and natively reads/writes docx format

LibreOffice is pretty nice, and free.
December 10, 2025 at 11:02 PM
Sorry to be that open source person, but maybe LibreOffice is exactly what you need?
December 11, 2025 at 12:10 AM
I don't mean to be that guy, but the open source alternatives have actually gotten really good. I'd encourage you to at least try OpenOffice or LibreOffice.
December 15, 2025 at 9:46 PM
So the first time I try to use Word after the lovely copilot badge sent me to try LibreOffice... it crashes trying to handle track changes and comments.

What has Microsoft *done* to the poor thing?

absolutely terrifying :(

uninstalled Copilot, restarted my computer, opened Word, it's STILL THERE

"just switch to LibreOffice, Microsoft is evil!" thanks, that's great advice for people who aren't COPYEDITORS 😩

LibreOffice bijvoorbeeld

Of Thunderbird (mail)

Dat maakt overstappen uiteindelijk makkelijker.

I gave up on Word 2 yrs ago & switched to LibreOffice. I feel your pain re: using an older PC. I periodically disable some services that Microsoft thinks I need, run disk cleanup, delete temp files, etc. Maxing out the RAM can help (assuming it's upgradable).
December 10, 2025 at 12:43 PM
Gotta love how despite using powershell to remove copilot entirely from Win10, there's now a forced copilot client inside of word that I can't get rid of. I'm trying to write. In a word processor. I don't want to generate shit.

I'm gonna move to Linux and use LibreOffice when I can. Fuck this
December 11, 2025 at 11:45 AM
Came here to say that if you happen to have an old version and disable updates, it won't override that.

But I'd add that Open Office (still available), even without future updates coming, is superior to LibreOffice. (I got LO to try, expecting an improved OO, and uninstalled it within an hour)

Have you tried LibreOffice. It is free. I like it.
