Seriously, though, Aunae's powers can be highly rewarding but at a high risk to their own health and well-being. I love rolling for their wild surges as its always so unpredictable.

Weak
Aunae is a strong spell caster and fighter but as previously stated, their power comes at a great cost and risk. Aside from wild magic surges that increase in frequency with continued use without proper rest, it also takes a damgerous toll on the necromancer’s overall health. If not careful, they run the risk of serious injury or death.

As with other casters, there is a limit for spells per day. However, Aunae takes “levels of exhaustion” with each wild surge and has about a 3-5 time limit before it becomes deadly. There is a balance between control and chaos that they have to keep in order to ensure they’re not taken out by the spirits their magic seeps from.

Unfortunately, it depends more on the spirits moods and desires, whether a surge happens and if they show mercy.

Aunae is weak
when it comes to love
making, as it is one of few self-indulging delights they allow themselves. To see the blushing hues of passionate heat upon the cheeks of their lovers, the sweat on their brow, and quiver of their lips captivates them every time without fail.

With long, graceful strides, they approached a nearby control panel, devoid of understandable labels, but Aunae sensed that it might either free the captives in this room, end their suffering, or perhaps even do both, depending on the switch that was pulled. Without a tadpole of their own, it was hard to say.

But hesitation was not an option. With decisive resolve, Aunae grabbed the nearest switch and pulled.

A rush of air escaped, filling the room as all pods sprang open—including those that housed the new mindflayers.

Immediately, Aunae is engulfed by waves of magic, churning within them as they become ever more acutely aware of everything surrounding them. It felt like plunging into an icy cold river. But instead of freezing them, the drow welcomed the shock, allowing it to ignite their next move as they stepped boldly toward the heart of the corridor where innocents tumbled from their cages, and four mindflayers emerged from their cocoons.

With movements as graceful as a swan and as fluid as a gentle breeze, Aunae danced across the pulsating, fleshy floor, murmuring incantations known only to them. But what followed transformed their elegant display into a grim spectacle, as the newly awakened mindflayers screeched, their purplish flesh beginning to shrivel, moisture fleeing from their very bodies.

One by one, they collapsed, mere husks of what they might have been. All but one advanced toward the drow, driven by a ravenous hunger that demanded to be sated.

Aunae remained steadfast, unmoving even when another, more potent wave of magic crashed over them. Their magenta eyes flickered to a radiant neon green as the necromancer inhaled deeply, steeling themselves for what was to come. There was always a cost to tapping into such a rich well of magical energy.

From the ground, the three deceased mindflayers rose, their bodies reanimated yet devoid of coherent thought or intention, left only to consume...

and it was their own kin that they turned upon, dragging the last remaining youngling down and overwhelming it with ravenous hunger.
Loud, grotesque slurping noises and the sickening crunch of flesh echoed as the horrific feast commenced.
Aunae watched for a fleeting moment until the unnatural glow faded from their eyes. When it did, their knees trembled, betraying them and sending them crashing to the ground. Exhaustion made each breath feel like a dagger, and they recognized the dire need for a brief respite before pushing onward.

All was quiet. Not in the way one might imagine, as the corridor echoed with the haunting sounds of death and flesh being torn apart. But for Aunae, this stillness felt serene and profoundly peaceful, for the voices that so often tormented them had finally silenced their wails and ramblings, as if they too had been swept away by the earlier burst of magical energy.

In this rare moment, Aunae could think clearly without the oppressive buzz of their curse ringing in their ears.

However, the sound of approaching footfalls broke the tranquility, and they weakly lifted their gaze, white curtains of hair cascading around their long, slender face as they watched Gale and Wyll draw near. It was certain the others would arrive shortly, as well.

And they would have to confront the chaos Aunae's unpredictable magic had unleashed—a sorrowful burden but sadly unavoidable now. There was truly no predicting how that dark, twisted energy would respond, the backlash arriving without warning or rhyme. Yet, for the drow, holding it in was a perilous gamble, threatening not only their own safety but that of everyone around them. It was always wisest to release it whenever possible.

Fortunately, the reanimated mindflayers seemed blissfully unaware of the newcomers, their relentless hunger fixated on their fallen kin as they savagely tore them apart, going far beyond simply devouring the brain. No morsel would go to waste here.

The party could only hope this gruesome feast would satiate them enough to keep them from pursuing the living as dessert once they were finished.

“Oh…gods,” Frans exclaimed, halting right behind Gale, his face contorted in disgust as he bore witness to the gruesome spectacle.

“A leash is still an option,” Astarion remarked with a conspiratorial whisper from Gale’s other side, a sugestion to keep the necromancer out of trouble.

Yet Minthara stood silent, observing with morbid curiosity from a few steps behind the group.
Aunae paid them little mind, their magenta gaze drawn irresistibly to the horned beauty threading through the horror to reach them. Though they had seen his face before, now, free from the fog of magic and the cacophony of eldritch voices, they truly beheld him for the first time. In the dim glow of the colony, Wyll radiated an angelic allure, juxtaposed with devilish horns, and Aunae felt themselves utterly captivated by his beauty.

“You alright there?” Wyll said in a low voice as he leaned in closer to Aunae. His devilish eye gazed over their form, looking for any signs of injury. Lucky, there wasn’t anything visible, but he could see the exhaustion in their being.

“I must have wandered,” Aunae said softly, their voice as silky and smooth as ever, though a hint of exhaustion crept in. “You have my sincere apologies for making you seek me out.”

They paused, the weight of the day's turmoil and the weeks of being denied true release crashing down on them. There remained a flicker of fight within, yet they could sense the limits of their endurance drawing near. It was a struggle to contain a caged beast finally unleashed, and now they were paying the price for that hard-won freedom.

“I will be fine. A moment’s rest is all that is required.”

As I ate lunch a bit late I went with a lighter convenience store takeaway option for dinner. Tonkatsu (pork cutlets) plus two puddings from a dessert shop. One was pumpkin over chestnut pudding, the other was haskap over cheesecake.
