Dark Souls, but it's like anime localizations of decades ago in that it tries to hide that death is happening.

We have a handful of Gundam manga in English but localizations are still fairly uncommon so I'm really really stoked for this!!!
NEW MANGA ANNOUNCEMENT: Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury—Vanadis Heart

All Gundams became forbidden…but now they’re running amok on Earth. From Chika Tojo, the artist behind the manga adaptation of The Saga of Tanya the Evil, comes The Witch from Mercury’s first official spin-off manga!

Carl Macek was plenty controversial among fans thirty-odd years ago, but his localizations worked. Tying MOSPEADA and Southern Cross into Macross *was* clever, and he did keep a lot of the themes.

sometimes the original script just be like that

which is if anything why localizations SHOULDN'T be afraid to diverge from the literal text if it results in a better read/listen

otherwise you end up with bullshit like MGS: The Twin Snakes' "it's not a weak point, it's more like a weakness!"

I really want to have Traditional Chinese localizations of my games filled with extremely specific Taiwanese cultural references. One day

Some of the most annoying people in video games are the folks who complain about localizations not being 100% perfectly accurate. Anyone saying they want 100% perfect translations is not equipped for a conversation about translation at all, tbh.

I've said it about Japanese games and it's just as true everywhere else: you can never, ever count on localizations to represent the breadth and depth of Japanese media and what comprises the canon as it's natively understood. Curation and commercial interests will always narrow and skew your view.

Yes, you are hearing that correctly. Plankton's Japanese VA is female. Not kidding.

Japan is a weird country sometimes with American cartoon localizations, huh?

In case you missed it, I wrote a tl;dr for my series examining Suikoden 1's English localizations. The final word: the HD Remaster's translation is a definite improvement, but suffers from the same issues as the 1996 translation—namely, a lack of context and not enough editing passes/LQA.
My Suikoden Localization Let's Play has finally come to a complete end! This overview covers the main points of the series, like "don't take words or punctuation at face value" and "consider the larger context," then dives into reviews of both the PS1 and HD Remaster English translations.

I have to say, I did not think this project would be nearly this long when I first started it, but...here we are. Since it turned into such a behemoth of a

working designs had the weirdest localizations, but the only nice thing i can say about game was that we got one english version of the shows theme song which...is 1 nice thing. everything else, feel free to rip and tear
I have nothing but good things to say about Magic Knight Rayearth (as a series) and nothing but bad things to say about Working Designs (forever).
Working Designs brought us Magic Knight Rayearth 27 years ago (1998) for the Sega Saturn!🔥🌊🍃 The isekai premise was MADE for an RPG (the girls even lampshade this), but we can also relish the return of a *new* MKR anime in the near future.

Honestly those grifters who want ai to “replace woke locaizers and voice actors” are fucking idiots because those ai localizations and voice shows that even the worst eng dubs has merit to them while these have no passion but be products

it's funny how the rise of genAI has pushed me into doing certain things

I started crocheting and sculpting more bc they're much harder for AI to steal
one of the reasons I started learning Japanese is bc I hear more and more about AI seeping into translations/localizations

If you had told me 20 years ago that anime would grow to become a ten billion dollar industry in North America, I would've imagined a future where it was treated with the same level of respect as western media, with high-effort, expertly produced localizations and dubs.

lmao, was I fucking naive
The only thing less human than these AI dub performances is the decision to sign off on them

A company this big can pay human actors a decent wage, not produce slop that intentionally removes the human element.

They're using "1,000 year old loli" rules to say that the resubmit is in bad faith. They refuse age-up localizations on the same grounds.
