diabloceratops means ‘devil-horned face’, which while edgy, doesn’t hold a candle to the contemporary tyrannosaurid lythronax, meaning ‘gore king’ or ‘gore lord’

Here’s a snapshot of the basal tyrannosaurid, Lythronax argestes for this #FossilFriday. It lived ~80 Ma, making it a much older cousin of the famous, #Tyrannosaurus rex 🦖- Discovered in Southern Utah 🇺🇸, its name means "gore king from the southwest."

Portrait of Lythronax from Nov. 2021. Back in college I'd experiment with doing scale detail. Nowdays I'm more impressionistic about details and lighting and rendering. When I bother to render.

Its actually more basal than T-Rex, you can tell because of the skull is way less robust than Tyrannosaurus' skull. You can see the development of the exaggerated features of T-Rex through Yutyrannus, Dryptosaurs, Lythronax, and finally T-Rex. As you can see despite being contemporaries Dryptosaurus

Ubirajara is a cooler recent discovery, Lythronax has a cool name, Pachycephalosaurus and Mononykus are all time favourites.

Lythronax argestes, a tyrannosaur who roamed the edge of an ancient sea that split North America in half 80 million years ago. Biting was their answer for everything.

Of course, Utah is well-known for its body fossil material, and the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument has produced some truly unique animals. From highly ornamented ceratopsians to limping tyrannosaurs, Utah was a cornucopia of diversity 80-75 million years ago. (4/5)

is much closer in physiology to Yutyrannus than either Lythronax or T-Rex despite being contemporaries meaning the two lineages split before Lythronax. Tyrannosaurus is actually the most derived Tyrannosaurus and has extremely exaggerated traits compared to any other.

Happy #FossilFriday, these are the broken lower leg bones (fibulae) of the tyrannosaurs Teratophoneus and Lythronax! Partial healing has occurred in both specimens, indicating the animals lived with the breaks for a short time before dying. (1/2)

Ooo!! My top 3 for carnivores and herbivores would be 1. Alamosaurus 2. Parasaurolophus 3. Sonorasaurus 4. Bambiraptor 5. Dakotaraptor 6. Lythronax mostly because we don't see a lot of these fellas in dino media. Do you have some critters in mind?
