#mCDR
No & yes. Removing CO2 from the ocean doesn't help global warming. BUT there could be an indirect effect, because the ocean might then take up more CO2 from the atmosphere. Lots of money is going into this "mCDR", but it's hard to do, very hard to scale up, & ever harder to prove it actually works.

Here at the #ocean pavilion at #COP30, we are facing the challenges of no electricity to show slides, or AC, so improvising with our laptops to tell the story of ocean climate solutions and the studies needed to understand whether or not marine carbon dioxide removal #mCDR makes sense.

This is such an important question, especially when scientific research must be impartial. Ken Buesseler of @whoi.edu will provide insight into what is needed to answer the scientific questions for #OIF #mCDR research.

My policy prior is that attribution of some extreme weather damage to climate change is reasonable even if proven detection is difficult. Should mCDR be different?

I think a moderate amount of research on mCDR, funded by govt/nonprofits, is a good idea. But when research on tweaking a complex system gets tied to carbon removal credits or offsets, alarm bells go off of for me.
Money can corrupt, especially from corporate sources that are only in it for PR.
