Let’s be honest, ferns are smarter. An ancient plant that drops spores and helps create microhabitat?! And they look cool? Don’t see them rockin’ a weird comb-over and spreading hate.

The cascade: Selective grazing → wildflower diversity ↑. Dung introduction → beetle colonization → bat/bird activity ↑. Trampling → microhabitat creation. Fur/dung → seed dispersal. They've even self-optimized fencing routes. This is applied restoration ecology. 🔄

If past experience is repeated, I should have a less shy generation reaching maturity by then anyway, the current group are gorgeous but fairly skittish - probably refugees from a microhabitat nearby that selected for timid spiders by being inhabited by spider-fearing humans

🌼🐝 After surveying many sites, Ian found that fire history didn’t predict bee nesting, but land use history did. More bees were found nesting in remnant prairies than in restorations. He also found that fire alters the microhabitat conditions bees rely on for nesting.
