I also recommend finding writer friends who are obsessed with the weird niche microtropes so you can text them about the book you're reading, "this is extremely Our Shit."
For some people I guess writing is lonely but for me it's the opposite, I'm always finding kindred spirits.

One of my favorite sf/f microtropes is when there are 4 friends and 3 of them suddenly get superpowers and the 4th doesn’t, or there are 3 sisters and 2 have magic and 1 has always thought she was a dud, and then at a suitably dramatic moment the dud’s mega super magic power is revealed!

One of my fave microtropes is when a grumpy, “strong” character with a heart of gold begrudgingly agrees to go on a journey to help save the day 🥹(ie Yondu from guardians of the galaxy, Gimli from lord of the rings, Jamba lilo and stitch, Haymitch)
