The time to ditch the monarchy and aristocratic system is long past.

It is baffling that we still accept such nonsense in a modern democracy.

For much of the 1960s and 1970s, Prince Andrew was second in line to the throne and could - had tragedy struck - have become king three years ago.

Those who oppose a republic on the not entirely convincing grounds of "I don't want a President Farage/Blair etc" might do well to contemplate that one.

Oh yes! They should have ended it on a high note and just bury the monarchy with the queen! Everyone from now on is going to be embarrassing at best!

Indeed. He serves no purpose in the monarchy and is at this stage just enjoying the luxuries and pomp. How about community service for the rest of his miserable life.

Why should any of us join you in wanting to make it work? I don't want monarchy to work. I want it to be abolished.

During a conversation with my family about #NoKings, the fact that the UK supports it came up as a bit of irony, as they technically do have a monarchy - specifically the one the United States fought to escape.

The jokes wrote themselves.

Just me who finds it weird that a party called Republican is very keen on the idea of a Trump monarchy?

At the same time they also generally did not want members of the actual ruling households of European major powers hence why also the Danish monarchy in the 19th century sent their spare members all over.

Democrats look more like a monarchy than republicans..

Their fan club’s just not bright enough to see it..

Why have either? Just get rid of the monarchy, then let it ride. (~);}

Given the late unification of Germany and the federated system they used Germany had alot of people who could claim to be royalty left over. Which was important to people who wanted their newly independent state to be a monarchy for reasons.

sure, the AI shit video is weird and childish, but i dunno if i'd yet seen him go "yeah i'm king trump so what"

the good news is, if this is a hereditary monarchy his kids are just as dumb without the charisma

It's always been that way.

Keep the buildings/estates and open them up to tourists, keep the ceremonies and parades, get rid of the monarchy.

I'll never understand why we publicly fund one family living in extraordinary luxury, while they pay little/no tax, and hoard property, land and wealth.

King Charles is potentially a witness to criminality by Prince Andrew, yet he can't be compelled to give evidence in court, nor prosecuted for perjury or anything else.

The monarchy and the monarch specifically have a privileged position on the basis that they don't abuse that privilege.

Hahahaha. You can criticize all you want. Whine, bitch, cry because you lost an election. But the “King” crap is retarded. We don’t have a king. No one wants or is proposing a constitutional amendment to create a monarchy. It’s a liberal billionaire funded hissy fit.

"Liechtenstein has a somewhat enigmatic political system, which combines elements of absolute monarchy, representative democracy, and direct democracy" huh.

Unfortunately, the prince seems to use his power against abortion and adoption by same-sex couples.

I'm not anti Monarchy, as such, but it's wrong to force a child to live out a set course from his / her birth.
Even the little children of William & Kate have no prospect of studying what they want to, having the career they want, and they will probably be "conscripted" into military service.

Has the monarchy become simply 'an extravaganza built around an ancient incantation with its contemporary power lying in its razzmatazz, pageantry and performance?' If so, in the light of current news, should the people demand that it undergoes some performance management?
