According to a report, 249,124 working mothers of children aged <5 have left their jobs due to difficulties balancing work and childcare. 40% had turned down a promotion for the same reason. Imagine if it were fathers. The obscenity. #FeministFriday #MotherhoodPenalty #childcare #TheFawcettSociety

🌸 This Mother’s Day, let’s go beyond flowers.

👩‍👧 Women still do twice the caregiving - and too often, pay the price at work.

It’s time to value care and stop the penalty.

It turns out, that under some perhaps non-typical circumstances*, the #MotherhoodPenalty, turns into a motherhood premium. That is, mothers earn more, after admittedly a long time (~15 years or so) than non-Mothers. 4/

Over a third of mothers in STEMM experience maternity bias, and fathers who share caregiving face stigma too. Follow our #BreakTheBiasSTEMM campaign to raise awareness & push for change–so no one has to choose between family or career. #MotherhoodPenalty #WomenInSTEMM #AcademicParents

The #MotherhoodPenalty does not affect all mothers equally. Black, Latina & Indigenous mothers earn as little as 48¢, 38¢, and 32¢ respectively for every $1 white, non-Hispanic fathers earn, when including full-time and part-time workers. #EqualPayNY #MomsEqualPayDay

This reflects the numerous conversations we have posted on the issue of the #MotherhoodPenalty. Even more concerns highlighted here 👿👿 #WomenEd
Our latest report shows how motherhood impacts not just pay but also job quality

While fathers are likelier to be in jobs with high prospects & long hours, mothers more likely to have less control over their work, poorer prospects & less job stability

Remember the #motherhoodpenalty?

It is not a “penalty”. It is a perpetual surcharge that increases in severity the more senior women get.

The Motherhood Penalty: Closing the Wage Gap💰

Mothers earn just 63 cents for every $1 fathers make, with each child under five cutting earnings by 15%. 📉
To bridge the gap, companies must support fair pay, workplace policies & shared parental roles. 👩‍💼👨‍💼

Listening now - most shocking part so far is @emmaturner75.bsky.social 's story of a former colleague talking to her in the *past tense* about her professional achievements the minute she had a child.

Parenting can/should be an 'additive' element not a 'reductive' element to being a professional.
