Yep. I could extol it's virtues for hours (it has a very large suite of tools that I don't think msword has.)

OneDrive/MSWord somehow made a chapter for a freelance project disappear. I've been working on it for several weeks. Tried every fallback for finding and restoring the doc, and it's like it never existed. Put too much trust in cloud storage, I guess. Double backups for now on. I am gutted.

I assumed it was together or some other amateur idiot-group. I’m shocked this is actually their job. I’d be embarrassed to advertise that as an example of professional design work. An unfunny dull all-caps hate-piece that looks like it was designed on MSword by a frothing Daily Express reader

Take a drink every time MSWord throws up an error chime because I clicked on the Next on the right instead of the Next on the left.

It was incredibly easy to convince a few idiots on Imgur these were real because duplicating court documents is incredibly easy.
What do courts do all day? They scan and store documents. Just set MSWord to large indentations and your scanner to the lowest settings possible and boom.

I will say MSWord does have it over GDocs in the ability to collapse a header (I hate seeing unfinished sections when I'm writing out of order)

It's a newer version of 'vim' - neovim.io. If you get mastery of using this editor the world of linux. It's only a suggestion, but it is a very powerful editor and I find it much more fun than MSWord. It's VERY different and takes quite a bit of learning.

I just spent a full day reviewing a contract template prepared by our attorney for us to use going forward, and 80% of it was fixing formatting irregularities and inconsistencies. Does no one at Big Law know how to use MSWord? What are they teaching y'all at law school these days?

For info, this was not long after I wrote a PhD thesis using MSWord. I still remember the lengths I had to go to do get it to print "Domański" correctly in the bibliography*. I haven't touched it since.

I exclusively use LibreOffice these days, and I always use MSWord format files (despite ODF being a better format). Never had a problem with compatibility. Google Docs is pretty good though, I used it a lot a few years ago. It was just a little light on features for me.

i forget who they bought word from, but the scuttlebutt is msword format is completely undocumented, incomprehensible, and nobody can fix it, from day 1. they wrapped the binary blob in xml in the aughts, for reasons also shrouded in idiocy
