Anuparna Roy’s Orizzonti Best Director winner “Songs of Forgotten Trees” traces the growing friendship of young Mumbaikar roommates—a sex worker and an IT caller—making for an accomplished debut drama. #Venezia82 observer.com/2025/09/revi...
Screening at Venice: Anuparna Roy’s ‘Songs of Forgotten Trees’
Roy’s approach is melodic and understated, and mines drama from human corners where other storytellers might not think to look.

Trying to imagine a Mumbaikar who lives in Boston being absolutely delighted by this very specific collision of cultures.

Tried a new restaurant tonight: Mumbaikar (on Yonge). All you Indian food lovers in Toronto will love it - that is, if you don't mind a bit of heat/spice. 🍜

How long before a non-mumbaikar in Mumbai should freak out after watching this kind of rain?

See my mumbaikar is coming out because how dare you. I'll fight with everyone who says vada pav is bad. You'll never get the joy of eating a perfectly hot vada pav with excellent dry chutney 😭
what's a traditional food of your people/culture that everyone else seems to love that you absolutely cannot stand?

for me it is vada pav. Vada is incredible, pav is fantastic, in combination they cancel each other out and become a black hole of anti-taste

As a Mumbaikar, I take offense to this. The laadi Paav is pretty damn good, else half of Mumbai street food wouldn't be served in it.
A thing that westerners somehow always have to learn via bitter experience on visiting India is we are a proud and ancient people with a stories history and some of the most diverse culinary traditions of any place on Earth who are constitutionally incapable of producing a halfway edible bread roll
