Opinion | Republicans' attacks on 'No Kings' protests reek of desperation
Republicans’ fictional portrait is part of a strategy to stop the resistance before it flexes its growing power.

Oh :).
I would say that most Americans have no special feelings about the White House, besides indoctrination.
It's just a building; one that was built with slave labor (twice.)
I would say I have no special feelings towards any man made monument of our nationhood, besides the Statue of Liberty.

Look what was left of the German nationhood after Hitler poisoned every part of it. We will see what cruelty is already done, when the American Nuremberg trials had begun.

A new papacy arrives just as American Christianity drifts deepest into politics. The election of Leo XIV signals a Church reclaiming its universality against the gospel of nationhood, reminding the faithful that borders are human inventions not divine design.

Theology as Subtweet: Leo XIV and Christian Nationalism
Where Christian nationalism craves divine endorsement for a single people, Catholic doctrine extends it outward, indiscriminately, to all.

BUT many who are largely un-critical of Trump refuse to acknowledge that this second-order effect "here" is a by-product of some pretty unpleasant first-order stuff. Namely, seeing nationhood as a property transaction, seeing federal money as his (which means he hates it being spent abroad)... 4/

The problem now is that a substantial part of Bibi’s coalition still wants to achieve its actual maximalist goals of wiping out Hamas, Palestinian nationhood, and most or all of the population of Gaza. How long they’ll have to wait before trying again is unclear.

In response to the harsh reality of national decline, Labour has offered only a ‘theme park politics’ fuelled by the sugar rush of the growth delusion. Might a more substantial, more humane vision of nationhood arise amid the ruins of Britain’s broken infrastructure?

Resisting National Populism will be even harder if much of mainstream and progressive politics won’t talk about the questions that migration and diversity raise about nationhood.
Migration and diversity trigger complex cultural, political, economic, democratic and legal questions about the nation. In the resulting politics the answers are often skewed. Some address those questions directly (and narrowly) while others avoid the nation question altogether.
Migration, diversity and nation building
This post outlines the challenge to re-imagine nationhood created by migration and diversity.

There is more than one reason for why Putin decided to invade Ukraine. It's not either a genocidal project of eliminating Ukrainian nationhood or about great power competition with NATO — it's both (and a couple more, in fact).
When Putin talks to a Russians he consistently says that they invade Ukraine to destroy the state and nation and correct the path of history. NATO and similar framings are just for the useful foreigners.
Pu spells out Ru's imperialist motivations for the war. He calls the conquest a long-held dream and historical destiny.
He beclowns those who insist NATO expansion caused the war. Let's see if anyone from the Mearsheimer fan club admits the claim has been falsified.

In fact, it’s core to the arguments of people like Daniel Boyarin who propose a vision of non-state-based nationhood—part of his claim is that it was how Jews saw themselves for the longest time, so clearly it’s possible.

I’m enjoying rereading Livy. Rome is as self-manufacturing in myth, dignities & ceremony as later empires. Power uses fake news, migrant fears & external threats to curb liberty. Individual rights are subordinated to ideas of nationhood & destiny. Times are in love with death. Yes. I’m enjoying it

Senator Josh Hawley is a traitor working for Putin. Anyone who calls Ukraine's struggle for survival a 'proxy war' is parroting the Russian line of denying Ukraine's nationhood.

it is both true that mistrust of media is frequently deserved and that U.S. media has done an absolutely terrible job of examining its own flaws *and* that this is really bad for society and a significant part of a fractured sense of shared nationhood and common reality

Trust in media has never been lower, Gallup says. A shocking 70% of U.S. adults have “not very much” confidence or “none at all” in what they see and hear.

They both used the expression "poking the Russian bear."
They both parroted Russian lies about NATO and EU expansion.
