i like & respect erin & s baum but this is horseshit analysis from the self-proclaimed "leader in the trans rights movement." the only leadership in her bio is running NCTE into the fucking ground while crowing about working for NLRB. the workers she screwed are leaders. i have no idea what she is.

So NCTE's gotten money from Google for English language teachers to create a framework for "responsible classroom AI use."

How the hell can you be objective when you're taking cash from one of the businesses seeking to shove AI everywhere?

Gross. Irresponsible.

NCTE Brings Teacher Expertise to Forefront in Development of AI Framework for English Language Arts Instruction

Don’t get me started on NCTE’s pitch to teach responsible AI use. Politely, that shit can fuck off into the sun
This is maddening.

1. First, we hear from a man who "continues to explore the newest technologies in his sixth-grade science and math classroom, constantly learning and adapting new ways to mix technology with hands-on learning."

He's a "veteran teacher," so no excuses, all you old dogs!

Here’s the part that I’ll half-agree with: the traditional school essay has limitations we take for granted. Speaking & listening are extremely valuable skills that I *do* think should have a larger role in many schools. None of that precludes books…and shouldn’t these all be cross-curricular goals?
December 8, 2025 at 5:14 AM
Moving along, this section makes some ideological claims that we’re supposed to accept by fiat. Even if one doesn’t find this section entirely objectionable, reasonable people could quibble with any one of these points for compelling reasons … and again… NONE OF THESE ARE REASONS TO DECENTER BOOKS
December 8, 2025 at 5:14 AM
Let’s start with the first section after the overview: isn’t this just an argument for writing 1984? I mean I know it’s front of mind for me because I just watched 2+2=5 over the Thanksgiving break, but … hey! I have an idea for a multimodal unit!
December 8, 2025 at 5:14 AM
This statement is full of contradictions and incoherent in its best moments. For example, take the excerpt from the overview below: how does any of that support an argument for recentering books?

And it gets worse from here … so I’ll read this so you don’t have to… 🧵
