Stone-curlew flying over my Billericay house last night. I was a bit surprised by this and did go for a second opinion, who confirmed the ID, but if anyone knows different, I would appreciate your input. Bit of a noisy recording but the calls are clear. xeno-canto.org/1048090 #essexBirding #NocMig

#nocmig barnacle geese over Elvington 4am this morning. There is a feral population at York Uni though so no idea of the origin of these birds.

A sojourn up to Sierra de Crevillente bagged a few new ones for the trip including Short-toed Eagle, Blue Rock Thrush, Crag Martin, Wheatear and Alpine Swift. Still 3 nights of Nocmig to analyse but 109 species on a very low effort level due to the heat. #birding

After two records this spring, a third #nocmig Bittern "graow"ed over #salopobs last night. Being clear and still, six calls were picked up over 75secs, and the middle four are squashed together here. Way less than annual in Shropshire, can't help wondering if we've got a roaming resident #ukbirding

Black Scoter's distinctive call was crucial evidence for justifying the split from Common Scoter bioone.org/journals/the... h/t @ahjharrop.bsky.social for spotting this rec with both taxa xeno-canto.org/970885. Now waiting for the Liverpool bird to fly over my house #Nocmig #UKBirding #Ornithology

I’ve skipped a bunch of other fine birds, including my second garden Woodlark and a brief snatch of Willow Warbler. There are lots of unidentified clips to puzzle over through the winter months … so I might yet dig out another interesting species.

I gave nocmig recording a go last night after seeing your recent posts about it and it's really interesting! Managed to pick up quite a few Redwings. Unfortunately my phone stopped after an hour but hopefully I've fixed that for tonight 🤞

A summary of nocturnal flight calls from Beijing’s highest mountain in autumn 2024 (August to November). Volume less than 10% of total recorded over the city centre. Same latitude, 1800m difference in elevation and significant difference in light pollution. #nocmig #beijing #birds #migration

Oh, in North America NFC is Nocturnal Flight Calls, nocmig isn't really used as a term. ARUs is (depending on whom you ask) Autonomous or Acoustic or Automated Recording Units like the Swift.

#Nocmig update! After moving to suburban York recently, my expectations for recording nocturnal bird migration over our sleeping heads were naturally much lower, but I've been pleasantly surprised - it's been an entertaining autumn, summarised here: northernrustic.blogspot.com/2024/12/nogm...

Landsort, Sweden. New record Spring NocMig count record recorded for European Robin, a massive night of passage in light northerly winds. Light rain through the night probably helped detect many of these birds.

So,

a) early night and up for dawn in the #BWKM0 challenge,

b) out in the garden for a protracted #nocmig unplugged session, or

c) early night and a lie-in?
