There seem to be a relatively few people who cannot cope with "nonconformity" to their personal beliefs. Aided by a large number of politicians and media types who love to blow minor issues into major catastrophes, so that they can avoid dealing with actual major problems....

Been taking a several days off to look after my partner after gender affirming surgery, and haven’t been able to draw much. Would love to hear prompts/ideas/themes, visual or otherwise, you associate with transness, gender nonconformity, pain, caregiving and healing - would love some inspiration!

Because White people want to control race most likely? You'll find a lot of racial nonconformity and ambiguity among Jewish populations as well, given how the world has treated us as the simultaneously White and not White until an antisemite observes us and chooses which is more useful to them.

It took me a bit to focus on the "biological pronouns" part of Murphy's opinion, but, in my defense, that's only because the concurring opinions contain myriad unbelievable claims.
Judge John Bush, another Trump appointee, might be the worst opinion of the bunch.

Turned into a fetishy joke over time that now the sexual term of femboy is associated with it, as well as an image of gender nonconformity thats not taken seriously or taken as a sexual thing exclusively. does a pair of socks harm gender nonconforming folk? not really, but it sure does feel like a

yeah I always worry I sound like a conspiracy theorist but I honestly think the same. nonconformity will be punished to the utmost extent to the law. the richest 1% and their corps need most of the population too exhausted and dependent to fight back.

Kids these days think they confuse the normies. We've been bringing the ironic dissonant nonconformity sauce since at least 1997

“Faced with an American society that for all its political freedom still rejects social nonconformity, Arendt urges refugees to be conscious pariahs, not Disraeli-like infiltrators: Beat them, don’t join them.”
Arendt’s Refugee Politics - Public Books
One of Arendt’s most surprising insights is that professing “love for the X people” may be a way to foreclose on freedom and on humanity just as effectively as professing “hatred for the Y people.”

this is false. twenty years ago it, it was presented as the norm so noone was asked to foreground or specify gender unless they chose to do so.
i'm not saying it was the best approach to publicly negotiating gender nonconformity, but it definitely was not intended for the benefit of 'cis allies.'

"don't assume people's gender" was never about respecting trans and nonbinary people. It was about protecting cis Allies™ from the humiliation of being corrected
hot take: I think we should go back to assuming peoples pronouns. if we get it wrong, we should be corrected, say "thank you for correcting me", and not get it wrong again.

At a time when so much funding for diversity science has been pulled, I am SO thankful to the American Psychological Foundation (APF) for awarding me & former student (now PhD student!) Lizy Szanton the Springfield Grant to examine kid biases at the intersection of race and gender nonconformity.

It took Charles twenty some years to alienate parliament and the puritans to the point where they were willing to countenance taking up arms against the throne, and if the plot succeeds, Elizabeth (or Catesby et al.) are more likely to return to persecution of protestants than expand nonconformity.

True in particular if we take an expansive view of trans to mean any kind of gender nonconformity. Making fun of feminine qualities in men and masculine qualities in women was a baseline for a lot of 40+ men (my generation) understanding of the world.

(2/3) In the fifth episode of the "Man Up" podcast, @milleridriss.bsky.social explores the erasure of gender nonconformity with Kaitlyn Tierney, co-founder of the nonprofit Diverting Hate, & speaks to Christopher & Tobi Lennertz for a family’s perspective on their real, lived experiences.

don't think this is what I was thinking of but this reminded me of the book "Uncommon Sense", about bentham's writings on tolerance + sexual nonconformity

Really gives the game away when they tell me that transfemininity is about erasing fem gay men, then turn around and heap contempt and disgust on the women they call “men in dresses.” They just hate gender nonconformity

Thank you so much! Hadn't realised that the older issues were online there - that should give me plenty to be going on with. (Have just joined the society as well. Am writing a dissertation on Nonconformity and disestablishment, so trying to read as widely as I can.)

Yeah, if it's the one I'm thinking of, she also admitted that yes, she just has a base-level disgust for nonconformity and thinks her expressing that shouldn't be considered bad.

I'd loved to have figured this out in my 20s when I had money, lived in SF with accepting friends and coworkers, and was away from my family.
But my life, and who I thought I was, was defined by constant rejection for my nonconformity. It's a miracle I *ever* rose above it all and found myself.

I wish I could’ve transitioned in my early teens, but I’ve never wished I wasn’t Trans. A girlhood, even partial, would’ve been amazing. But discovering that “biological” destiny wasn’t real, and that I could physically become a whole other person, has been the most amazing experience of my life. 💗

type of nonconformity to the point of hate killing if needed, usually in insane asylums. Autistic people were, no exaggeration or metaphorical speaking, considered possessed by demons and subjected to abuse by the church.

You cannot carry out fundamental change without a certain amount of madness. In this case, it comes from nonconformity, the courage to turn your back on the old formulas, the courage to invent the future. It took the madmen of yesterday for us to be able to act with extreme clarity today.

I say critique when really I mean criticize since it focuses on the negative aspects of living in a world ruled by people who hate change and nonconformity to societal norms
