RECOVERY IS NONLINEAR

This goes for everything. Literally everything.

Bottom surgery -> nonlinear
Cancer -> nonlinear
Internalized transphobia -> nonlinear
Trauma -> nonlinear

ITS ALL NONLINEAR

To any of you recovering from anything right now, I’m so proud of you!!!!

me VS my nonlinear plot

*FIGHT*

Honestly reading all my stories having fairly standardized layouts has me wanting to try playing with form. Nonlinear narratives, first person diaries, I should try getting weirder with it.

Today's Elliptical Cinema: rewatching Season 1 of True Detective.

I'm trying to remember if this is actually good or not, or if it just points at it. If the nonlinear construction is helping or sleight of hand to make the narrative seem like more than it is.

🆕 in "Ecological Monographs": Static models miss the mark—adding nonlinear, density-based facilitation helps predict coexistence, persistence, and realistic community dynamics

📄Neighbor density-dependent facilitation promotes coexistence and internal oscillation

Revolution in the Head, for all its many faults, showed me aged sixteen that it was possible to write about music *as music*, not just the lyrics or anecdotes around its making.

And Coincidance by RAW for all *its* many faults, showed me how to do discursive, nonlinear, fractal critical essays.
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

I mean this could be very bad writing that notes that I defend nonlinear narrative, meandering, etc. (and I do praise indirect consequences a lot), but it sure sounds like something more specific, aka me talking about this guy.

Linear hope doesn’t work in a nonlinear phase.

The binary mind can’t read tipping points — it expects progress or collapse, not feedback.
But reality is recursive.
The climate isn’t failing; it’s responding.

We’re past prediction — now it’s adaptation, or alignment with collapse.

I'm realising that I get slightly wound up by the vagueness with which the word "inherently" gets used in various mathematical contexts - "inherently sequential", "inherently nonlinear", and so on. Often not clear exactly what is meant, often because such claims are followed by their contradiction.

One under-appreciated limitation of rainbow color maps—even improved versions like Turbo—is that they become even more distorted when printed. And RGB documents are often converted to CMYK, even for display on the web.

It's simply not a deterministic chaotic system in any meaningful way. It's an entirely different branch of mathematics. You could very tenuously claim that you can model a nonlinear dynamic system with vaguely similar linear algebra. That's it.

It really moves along at a good pace, and the nonlinear story is very engaging

The amount of casual transphobia that was passed off as "jokes", the especially unkind treatment openly trans members received, failure to kick open bigots to the curb, Rodney mocking nonlinear identities, even being told directly by a couple people that they doubted I was actually trans. Holy fuck.

I'm more critical of this than "highly nonlinear" (and similar), because in those cases, I can at least envision a way of making it precise.

The wild thing is that the solar forecasting algorithm really is just a regression model under the hood. A nonlinear one, but just regression at the end of the day.

#LateNightWrite

I've written a lot of stories set on the tundra, in the forest, and a few set in Kitchener. I tend to write a lot of speculative ecofiction and ecohorror.

I plan on writing more stories set in the bonkers nonlinear universe of my Great Flood story.
#LateNightWrite Do your WIPs ever tend to share the same setting or location? Do you tend to write stories with similar themes?

IRT often feels like one hot fever dream where everybody tries to hide the fact that it's just a nonlinear factor model. I had friends who weren't trained in it who essentially picked up that it had magic properties that factor models don't.

Repertory film screenings trend surreal and nonlinear this month, with cinemas showing The Double Life of Véronique, The Color of Pomegranates, Memoria, and other films that ask for your focus and faith. Read why they're worth it on Second Run.

lmao gonna blame it on hormones

this is what makes trauma so potent and thought shaping and why healing from it is often very nonlinear, you basically have little gremlin bastard inside you spinning the evil thoughts slots nonstop, trying 1 million different ways to make you feel terrible and stop because it thinks it knows better

I see this same sort of thought regarding linearity. I forget who said it originally, but: “classifying mathematical objects as ‘linear’ and ‘nonlinear’ is like classifying objects in our universe as bananas and nonbananas.”
