#openfpga
i'm going to install the openfpga cores and just put roms on the thing. it'll be the 17th device i own that allows for this, but the best one.

I find it fascinating how when playing Super Mario Bros. 2 (AKA The Lost Levels) on a Famicom using an Everdrive or via hardware emulation such as the Analogue Pocket) there's a black line on the top of the screen that shifts horizontal positions based on where in the level you've progressed.

for GB/GBC games, there are custom program files with injected roms so you can check out the display filter features. openfpga cores for everything else

You can search the current #Analogizer supported cores here:

you can install openfpga cores on it and play games from a microsd card

Is the duo core also done by Kevtris? Or somebody else? The Duo is feels very much phoned in so far. Also we need openfpga cores 😅

Just started messing with openFPGA cores on the Analogue Pocket last night, and man, I am even more in love with this little device now.

Sounds promising!

It reminds me a little of the openfpga core tracker setup for analogue pocket. There are third party updater apps which then use that provided data.

October 16, 2023 at 5:02 PM

Somewhat unrelated but I’m also still bummed that Analogue’s 3D won’t have openFPGA cores like the Pocket (which I love). And, like, yes I will eventually figure out settling up emulators on my Steam Deck but the filter stuff seems genuinely cool and it doesn’t seem like any else is gonna do it!
I never really hopped on the mini console thing, but still kind of saddened by this. They’re neat little things and as someone who never owned a Saturn I’d love a little mini version or—praise be—some sort of compilation version.

December 1st: "Analogue Pocket Adapter Set has been delayed and will be shipping in late February 2024. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience. We are looking forward to getting these in to everyone’s hands and note that Pocket Adapters are supported with openFPGA."

Introducing the SuperStation one. An open-source PS1 FPGA gaming console that supports original games, memory cards, and controllers. Load games from a disk or a backup. Region free. Supports all MiSTer FPGA cores, including N64 & Sega Saturn.

My friend Andi has been messing about with some sprite drawing tests using the Analogue Pocket openFPGA RISCV core and some old artwork of mine. Neat to see these sprites on the fancy Pocket screen!

I love that they added openFPGA to the Analogue Pocket. My neighbor gave me the extra one he "accidentally" bought. Loaded a TON of Roms on it and still grab GBA and Gameboy carts when I see one I want. Got hit hooked to my monitor with the dock and use an 8BitDo controller.

#AnaloguePocket kam diese Woche. Sehr schönes Gerät. Spielt Module wie Roms über die OpenFPGA Cores. Sehr wertiges Gefühl in der Hand.

Like I do most of my gaming including emulation on my Steam Deck, but I love playing my actual GB/GBA carts (and the occasional NES/SNES game via openFPGA) on my Pocket. There's something about the display, the controls, and the lack of WiFi...

Insta-follow, nice! Looking forward to your dive in to interesting off the main path of @yosyshq.com bit.

Gonna have to figure out what other fpga/yosys/openfpga nerds there are to follow here that I'm missing!

I've seen some side eyed comments about the way analogue has been doing the openFpga stuff, but none of it even approaches how unacceptable buying something from palmer luckey is.
July 24, 2025 at 10:48 PM
Yeah because that's the main function of the unit that a commercial entity worked on. The volunteer OpenFPGA stuff has lagged behind

I got a knock-off GBA link cable so I had to test it.
I did muktipak multiplayer and connected a GBA running an EverDrive to an Analogue Pocket running OpenFPGA and to a GBA SP running the original cartridge (connected to the knock-off with an authentic cable) and it worked fine!
