The Bond franchise, of course, is fantastical and dated in many ways, but one thing Fleming got interestingly right about evil is the overcompensation for some kind of masculine weakness. Le Chiffre's eye, Goldfinger's greed/obesity, etc.
His secret was having boatloads of money (almost certainly illegally) and making the people around him feel similarly invincible. I blame movies for this - they depict people like this as calculating masterminds when they're usually just giant assholes. Only Scorsese gets it right.

I’m not a fan of Boebert, and I’ll say this carefully, but her behavior often reads like someone who’s been through “something”. The insecurity, the overcompensation…it wouldn’t surprise me if she relates to the darker side of this story as someone who might understand the trauma of all this. 🤷🏼♀️

Anyone but Wiener would be great, but this guy uses the overcompensation of computer engineers to do good, a candidate after my own heart. I can't claim to do good, but I can aspire to not do harm. That's why the existence of oil companies is so frustrating to me, something Wiener actively ignores.

I think the entire thing speaks to the decadent paranoia of the wealthy. Their appeal to masculinity really is just overcompensation for their sheer lack of scrupled morality and courage. They are cowardly in the most objective sense.

One could see a case for this kind of strong culturally, political conservative perspective being in the room - as 'viewpoint diversity' - if adequately checked, balanced and countered by contrasting views too.
