Honoured to receive the Best Poster Award at the QUADRAT DTP Annual Science Meeting 2025! @quadratdtp.bsky.social

It was fantastic to share my PhD research on cyanobacterial blooms in Northern Ireland lakes using palaeolimnology to explore how multiple stressors drive harmful algal blooms.

Some brilliant scientists pushed the field even further.

For example, @gilromera.bsky.social work on fire palaeolimnology + human historical ecology shows how Ice Age humans were shaping landscapes long before written history 🔥👣

Pioneers of this exciting new science (palaeolimnology) included Canadian lake ecologists like the late Brian Moss & my colleague Ian Walker.
They built on earlier work by others, such as pioneering Australian palaeopalynologist Isabel Cookson (pollen expert – think Ellie Sattler #JurassicPark 🌿🦖).

1/Y’all, I’m making a Quaternary palaeolimnology thread 🌊🦟
For #FossilFriday & #ERN25 we have a workshop on using insect subfossils f. lake sediments. Thought this would be a great chance to show how to go from tiny 20,000-year-old fly larvae →complex temperature models. @jacquelyngill.bsky.social

Absolutely. If you have just finished a PhD in oh palaeolimnology perhaps at UCL why would you now look for postdoc work in the US? I wouldn't. Lots of great options in Canada and the EU.

I had mine 18 years ago (environmental change, palaeolimnology) and the weird mixture of emotions once I was told all was well has never really been replicated. The champagne with the rest of the department afterwards sure tasted good though! I hope you're able to celebrate in a similar fashion.
