You’d think that the social media network made up of people who were part of Web 1.0 forums would understand the pitfalls of unpaid, volunteer moderation like this
Blocking hatemongers is one thing but this trend of using mass block lists to avoid hearing from people who might or might not hold points of view you expect to disagree with is unhealthy imo and hurts the platform.
Bluesky was better off with folks like Margaret Mitchell and Giada Pistilli on it.

I haven't been this optimistic about the political future of the UK since 2017 (when I was the most optimistic I've ever been). But we know the pitfalls, and we don't have many of the weaknesses we had then.

As a minor example of pitfalls here, I posted a thread about Halloween candy earlier. People replied using the word “suckers” because they were literally talking about lollipops. That wasn’t rude. It wasn’t even off topic! Those replies got automatically hidden. Why can’t I choose to unhide them?

Respectfully if you look at someone’s taste in musicals for their politics it’s always gonna seem libbed up bc by and large, the whole medium is. Even musicals that try to push past liberal paradigms have pitfalls thanks to the formulas and tropes of the whole thing
