Also, fun fact: Plasmoids are so well-known for their loyalty that there's a saying among wildspacers that goes, "If you want a friend to stick with you into the void, choose a plasmoid." 🦠✨

The 5e plasmoids are generally smaller, weaker, and more limited in their abilities compared to their 2e cousins (they would have been too overpowered as playable races, after all), so I decided they could be a "common" variant of plasmoid (I couldn't come up with a more creative name lol)

I noticed, though, that there were still remnants of the old plasmoids in Boo's Astral Menagerie. The Plasmoid Warriors can toughen their surfaces to form a natural armor like the DelNoric. The Plasmoid Boss has an increased size and an uncanny dodge ability, reminiscent of the DeGleash

Plasmoids were then brought back into D&D 5e with Spelljammer: Adventures in Space, where they were also made into a playable race. They still retained their abilities to change their shape and hold their breath for an hour, but they are now only resistant to acid and poison

These plasmoids had three subraces—DeGleash (agile and amorphous, capable of stretching over great distances), DelNoric (capable of forming a protective leathery hide, though this limits its shape-changing abilities), and Ontalak (an ambush predator that camouflages itself as ships to lure in prey)

The MC7 Monstrous Compendium Spelljammer Appendix for AD&D 2e introduced the sentient oozes known as plasmoids. A plasmoid could "hold its breath" for an hour, and was generally immune to piercing, poisons and disease, resistant to slashing, acid and cold, and vulnerable to heat

I was doing some research into D&D lore and the plasmoid race from Spelljammer caught my eye. This led me into a rabbit hole into their history that left me somewhat disappointed at how 5e handles older editions' lore, but still finding some things from it pretty charming, like the new plasmoids

Bastard.
Animating the 'plasmoids' and wondered what I'd b0rked: on one level, only one of two is working
Spent *ages* looking at the code, cross referencing to other bits...
Then discovered it's an error in the mapping; there's only one there. Not sure if it's an encoder or decoder error. 😐

How black holes produce powerful relativistic jets
A chain of plasmoids is created on the equatorial plane along the current sheet, where the particle density (left part) is higher. Here, magnetic reconnection takes place, accelerating particles to very high energies (right). Particles also reach relativistic speeds along the spin axis and eventually form the jet powered by the Blandford–Znajek mechanism. Gray: Magnetic field lines. Credit: Meringolo, Camilloni, Rezzolla (2025) A hundred years before the Event Horizon Telescope Collaboration released the first image of a black hole in 2019—located at the heart of the galaxy M87—astronomer Heber Curtis had already discovered a strange jet protruding from the galaxy's center.

he immediately said "Charging bird. Injecting plasmoids." and I wouldn't be surprised if I laughed out loud in my sleep

Alas, no. But perhaps my son, studying astrophysics in college, will have interesting things to say about plasmoids at some point. But plasmids are cool, too!
