I would like to be a drawer of all life that is extinct but recently it's just been pterosaurs

Obsessed with the “not a replica” label for this fine plesiosaur(?) skull in a rock shop window in Los Angeles.

He also had the composite mosasaur jaw of my dreams but it wouldn’t fit in my luggage

New drawing of Early Jurassic #plesiosaur #Rhomaleosaurus. This was a big predator, around 7 m long (comparable to an orca). Rhomaleosaurs had shorter necks and larger skulls than many plesiosaurs, but were not as big-headed and short-necked as more derived pliosaurids like Kronosaurus. #palaeoart

Getting ready to present on "Some Narrative Aspects of Cryptozoology" at #NEPCA , which looks at major works of cryptozoology by Sanderson and Heuvelmans alongside creature films of the 1950s (especially "The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms"). Here are a couple of my favorite slides from the talk!

Yesterday I finished this wonderfully huge plesiosaur with stars and a moon, in a deep rich navy🥰

happy #fossilfriday! this is abyssosaurus, a deep-sea plesiosaur from early cretaceous russia. like many other vertebrates that live in the bathypelagic zone, this animal retained juvenile traits well into its adulthood, a condition called paedomorphis

The South Australian Museum is still pretty great. It has whale skeletons, a giant squid, amazing rock galleries, and an inexplicable Egyptian gallery. And also a ten-thousand year old boomerang, and an opalised plesiosaur skeleton that must be one of the most wondrous things in the world.
