Lunch, Sometimes by Kay Medway
I don't stay for lunch at school every day.
Mum takes me home by myself for play.

Past the little shop of glass windows for sale and conservatory doors,
on the way home to lunch,
past the fish and chip shop, its blue shop front sign,
it's the best one in town,
near Great-Uncle's home, near the cake shop,
a Tiara-topped wedding dress in a small and beautiful shop window,
locksmith, and more.

Sun's beams, bright sunflower-coloured streams, through windows at home.
Playbox children's television on TV.
I thought I imagined I heard them call it like my name, Kay instead of Play.

In shoulders, on the way home, I look up high
and say it would take forever to build a ladder to the sky.

Sometimes Hannah and her mum invite me for lunch
at her home opposite the school,
to play.

Dad’s Two Tummies

My dad has got a tummy.
But I say it looks like TWO.
Dad says he might sell one of them –
Like that’s something you can do!

I think he needs to exercise,
Eat one or two less treats.
Perhaps he should chase after me
As I’m fast and VERY sweet.
