Excellent article and a pleasant antidote to the shameful attack on Zack Polanski for which the Guardian should apologise.

See @sundersays.bsky.social thread today on Peston-Lam with commentary by @joxley.jmoxley.co.uk and @jamesdaustin.bsky.social for people explaining better than I can why top British media stars simply aren't up to the job.
Polanski swims in that world easily, and the LDs need to learn how to do it.

2. The UK media *across the political spectrum* aren't up to the job of serious political analysis and understanding policy.
Politics is treated as a branch of entertainment, and Polanski is decent for the ratings.
Ed Davey falling in a river: also decent but a bit Last Year now.

Two answers which can both be true.
1. Lib Dems need to up their media game. That's exactly the point Polanski made to Green Party members when standing for leadership vs the more Lib Dem-like Chowns and Ramsay: use Reform methods.

I speak now of the great hydra,
Three faces, of Rachel Millward
And then Mothin Ali
Then in the midst Zack,
(Wait for the rhyme) Polanski
Three mages of equal might,
For true eco-populist fight,
They faced the Tory,
And with their foresight,
Opposed it there with dignity.

While the recent story of UK politics has been the seemingly unstoppable rise of Reform, under Polanski the Greens hit 15 per cent in a recent poll, level pegging with Labour. Little wonder, then, that reports over the weekend suggest panic in Labour ranks.

Labour's alarmed by the Green surge? So am I.
For Green leader Zack Polanski fewer millionaires is not just a means to an end but an end in itself.

Tbf I think the Lib Dems do deserve more coverage.
The UK press is very homogeneous and right wing. I think they are trying to harm the Greens by platforming Polanski, and are unaware that his policies and straightforwardness are appealing to many of us.

Voters are wrong. All the time. Why can’t progressive politicians just say it? Mildly triggered by Zack Polanski dealing with Peston. His response is present day textbook “good” but why must we treat voters like infants?

I think because the lib dems are middle of the road.
Also... it is unbelievably rare for a politician to give straight answers to anything. Polanski does, and I think they find it both refreshing & scandalous.

Because torturing western citizens means you can’t just dismiss it as nothing to do with us. You saw how difficult Peston made it for Polanski to make any point. So this was a good choice in the limited time he had.

Britain has a messiah-wish. Polanski is the latest in a line that contains Farage and Corbyn and Johnson and Thatcher. They expect someone to come along with a wand and solve problems that really require reflection, collective hard work, and compromise.

It’s clear the RW media is throwing everything at Polanski right now to try to kill the Greens off. Peston the latest example. The Lib Dem’s may well benefit from all this. They’re not seen as a threat.

WTF is up with this country.
No disrespect to The Greens or Zach Polanski but we’re in Reform territory here (not politically) where an MP receives a disproportionate amount of media & press coverage.
Where’s Ed Davey & the Lib Dems; who have 72 MPs. Why is it rare we see them on tv or in papers?

Zack Polanski, "If you rely on the private sector to run universities on what should be a basic human right for people to be able to educate themselves, you get into these ridiculous situations."

Tag!

This kind of utter laziness and elite cosiness is precisely how we've got to the position we're in with Reform. Such gratitude is not extended to, say, Polanski who must defend vigorously his views (which is how it should be for all).

Poosibly but her inability to vote would essentially make her a "foreign donor". That would +1 the membership number but would misrepresent the growth of the Greens.
