Never assume Mike Johnson says anything in good faith. It’s all bullshit, even the prepositions.

Does there yet exist any way to automatically break text into lines based on best practices for flow and readability? (According to Netflix subtitle guidelines) Could be useful to bake into a game's dialogue system 🤔

If your sentences feel unclear and fiddly, use fewer prepositions. Especially, rewrite sentences with both a "to" preposition and a full infinitive ("to write", "to open"), or any other situation where the same little word means different things in different parts of the same sentence.

Prepositions was/is my biggest weakness being English my second language, but I learned to think before I speak so I wouldn’t accidentally defend an evil ideology.

Use a brain once a while people may think you are a real boy.

The two most infuriating things when writing in a foreign language (meaning English, in my case) are punctuation (particularly commas) and prepositions.

Old Harvard joke: redneck freshman asks an upper classman "Where's the library at?" After being told that students at Harvard do not end their sentences in prepositions, he asks again: "Can you tell me where the library's at, asshole?"

23: What grammar rule catches you out?

Prepositions. "In" and "on", specifically, because a lot of the time they translate the exact same way in Portuguese.

We compound it so that the prepositions can hide its shame.
You know, I'm going to say it - Latin can be a lovely language, but every form of eo, ire is the most hideous form of eo, ire.

eunt? imus? ierant? ierint? iens? euntis?

Then you've got choices: iit (awful) or ivit (still bad)? do you want ierunt, iverunt or iere? All terrible.

Just the worst.

This last week I've done adjudicating an argument over pencil ownership, advice for a friend group miscommunication blowup, awkward but delighted thanks for sincere compliments, and twenty minutes on identifying prepositions. The kids are all over the map, but they're all trying in their own ways.

the most mysterious part of the English language for me as a learner is all the "pull + prepositions" in the context of driving: pull up, pull over, pull in, pull out. just why... who's pulling what. am I "pulling" the car? or more like the car is pulling itself?
but then I'm reminded of

Age verification: I had to apply in person to get an email address from my university, and justify why I needed it.

Why do identical scenes take different prepositions? In Portuguese (BR), one “em” covers picture on a wall and apple on a plate; Italian splits them. What’s the shared logic? Michele I. Feist tests this across languages.
