I really enjoy the style, characters and worlds created by Benedict Jacka.  It's easy to root for Stephen as an underdog, mostly on his own without resources. He is having to make some difficult choices to support himself.  There are those who want his services but he wants control over his own destiny and it feels like any of the possibilities take away his independence.

I enjoy the Native American history and archaeology in this Syd Walker series. The author's note tells the true parts of the story which I appreciate so much. The government and its agencies have been very unfair and even cruel. Syd Walker is an archaeologist with the Bureau of Indian Affairs.  She currently lives and works in Rhode Island.  Her boss Bud retired recently and her new boss, doesn't seem to be into close supervision.
