gonna keep on with windows for a little longer, probably until i finish silksong just so i don't have to worry about the save file. though it's all steam clouded so it should be fine either way

Hi Hannah, I have explained this to Valve 20000 times and I get the "we created Proton to allow players to play the games". It's a miracle they got us out of Steamdeck lotcheck. Anyway the TLDR is: play Steamdeck natively if possible. Proton uses the windows version.

it's a sad state of affairs where debugging what I thought was a deadlock (and was actually a use-after-free) on the 3ds remotely from my laptop was painless and easier than trying to attach a debugger to the companion ffxiv plugin in proton

What kind of problems? My use case for the GPU are mainly games, I have used 4 different boards overs the years without much trouble (660, 980, 1650, 4060ti). Using Proton games are usually very stable.
Drivers installation was initially not simple as it is now, today it is a breeze.

Okie. Good to know. I'll give it a try. I was trying out another idler - Bit Buddy - on my own because a cartoon pug frantically typing along with me is adorably hilarious. I had issues with transparency as well. I figured it was a proton thing.

So, it works with Proton 9, but not Proton-GE. Which is annoying because transparency doesn't work properly with 9 and does with GE 🙃 we'll be seeing if there's anything we can do to improve this post NextFest. So windowed mode is probably the nicest experience right now.

Standard notes is kinda bad now. It was a great app but they almost stopped all development since @proton.me bought them, but apparently they were hiring after that?
It would be nice to have now on what is happening, are they working on a new app to include in Proton environment or something?
